I am a software NERD and I make stuff. Some of them are cool... I think.
I cover topics around building software, startups, coding productivity tips and maybe occasional gear/tech reviews. I wish to inspire people to do software since I consider it as a very niche form of art.
Join me in my quest of doing cool stuff!

Once in a while, I need to rearrange my desk. Cleaning it daily sometimes is not enough. I feel refreshed! š¦¾
This time I faced a wall bigger than usual and I got so overwhelmed that I switched from VSCode to VIM and moved things around in the office.
I need to get back to making videos again. I kinda miss it but the amount of work on Lens is not to be underestimated, especially when I have a deadline this autumn š

This week I had to change some things on the lens website. š„ļø
The reason is Iām going to a photography event where Iāll talk to all the attendees about the product. I had to change the product screenshot because the UI changes sooooo drastically š
Hopefully, Iāll find some early adopters. š¦¾

This was a long 36h design dayš
āAlmostā every design ready.š¦¾
Thankfully I can go back to coding for now.
I am almost proud of them! Donāt know if I am tired or genuinely happy though. Weāll see tomorrow! š¤

WHATāS YOUR DRINK OF CHOICE?
Do you prefer coffee or tea? Maybe water?
Recently Iāve stopped drinking coffee during my coding sessions, this is my first cup in a few weeks āļø
The main reason was the weather. I couldnāt enjoy my drink when the temperature in the room was too damn high. Iced coffee became too sweet at some point (that and in Poland I couldnāt find hazelnut-flavoured ice cream, like the one I enjoyed in Italy)
The funny thing is that almost at the same time, I became more of a night owl than normal. Maybe thereās a link? Weāll see today.

This Thursday, I decided to ask you all to help with my project development. If you donāt want to miss out and want to be a part of the group making the next social media platform - follow me on Instagram, X or YouTube. Iāll be posting more questions in the near future.
This time we were building a profile page. And I asked you what options were the best. Almost everyone picked a profile page with a normal button and gaps between photos in the grid.
Itās all already implemented! And hereās the result! Maybe next time Iāll do the live coding on livestream. What do you think?
I couldnāt post the result yesterday because I was having a great time with my partner at our friendās wedding.

Designers, developers, photographers! I need your help
Which design for a
Lens profile page is the best?
The struggles I have are:
* The follow/following button
* The spaces in the photo grid - should they stay or should they go?
If you have any other suggestions I will be extremely thankful for those
The example profile is no other than āŖ@PeterMcKinnon⬠Maybe he has something to say about the photo-sharing app I am working on
A and B are the same when it comes to "follow" button, but the spaces are only on the B version.
C has the "follow" icon instead of the button.

Right now, I am working hard to make Lens available for mobile Android and iOS since those are the main platforms to consume content onlineš±
Until everything is dialled up, with the algorithms and design language, I am not jumping into web or tablet space. After finalising the MVP, Iāll expand to other platforms as soon as possible. I am aware of photographers workflow, and no one needs a mobile middleman to post photos edited on a desktop. Since I love working with my iPad dedicated app is a no-brainer as well.
Cross-platform support is challenging. Thankfully Lens is written in Flutter š¦ so I can cover most of the platforms with one codebase.
Still considering web though - that will probably be done in Angular. Yes, ANGULAR!

The fact that Lens is being build in public is good and a bad thing at the same time. š
Good is that it gets some recognition, and the bad is that the content itself takes some time to make. I am still learning how to balance that. I try to post more on social media about the work I put into the project, but as with everything, it takes time.
If you create any content - you know how much.
Right now, weāre adjusting all the algorithms we created so that lens can exist. For now I can tell you the main 3:
āŖļø Scoring for post and user - we use a variation of ELO system to ensure that every engagement get a fair value based on the size of two parties involved within certain engagement
āŖļø User preferences - for the āInspireā page, where lens provide users with photos they liking, we have an algorithm that calculates the topic users interested in based on the their engagements.
āŖļøLens economy - this algorithm takes care of the amount of money that travels between users, its users the Scoring from the first algorithm and adds required boundaries that makes lens economy fair and square.
I cannot disclose any more details at the moment. But Iāll definitely touch that topic in one of my videos.
If you have a minute, go watch one of my videos or check out the lens website (lens-app.com). Let me know what you think about the project and the content, tell me what I can improve! šŖ

This week's video is coming late. I have it ready uploaded, but since the last one did not perform well I want to maximize chances for the new one to get more views - Saturday, I think, is not the best day to publish.
Thank you all for watching!
You are amazingš«”
