Happy Easter from the cut! We are proper ‘out out’!

After a wild night with the boat rocking and ropes creaking weathering Storm Dave, we woke this morning blue skies, stillness, and sunshine.

It feels especially good to be back out on the canal for the Easter weekend. It’s been a while, and moorings like this are exactly why we love it. Calm, quiet except for a few noisy geese and cows, and a beautiful view.

We hope wherever you are, you’re getting a bit of a little bit of sunshine too. Happy Easter 🐣 ✝️

One Day More Aboard

We’ve been a bit quiet on here lately as I’m currently on a much bigger boat, spending some time with our son Alex who is a vocalist on Viking Mars!

One of the highlights of the trip has definitely been going through the Gatun Locks on the Atlantic side of the Panama Canal. It’s an incredible experience to be on board as the ship is raised up step by step from the Atlantic Ocean into the canal system. Something I’ve seen on TV before, but completely different seeing it for real here in Panama. Same principle as the many, many locks we have been through in the UK but the scale is just unfathomable!

It’s also been really special just being together and hearing Alex sing in real life, not just on video, and the joy of performing that radiates from the vocalists.

Back on Narrowboat One Day More, Poppy is keeping Pete company while he’s working hard settling into his new job. She’s making sure she reminds him when it’s time for walks and a little ball chasing!

We’ll be back to our normal narrowboat life and posting again very soon, but for now I’m making the most of this time away while Pete and Poppy hold the fort 😊

We just wanted to say a huge thank you for all the lovely comments on our latest video released yesterday evening. So many messages welcoming us back and saying we’ve been missed really mean a lot. It’s such a wonderful online community that we have built.

It’s good to be back. The last few months have been a bit of a juggle, balancing editing with me working part time and picking up lots of extra shifts until Pete starts his new job in February. Life got busy, but I’m back in the swing of things, and looking forward to showing you all of our summer cruising adventures to Oxford and onto the River Thames, with the very precious footage of our lovely old boy Hamish, enjoying his last few months of boat dog life.

Happy New Year and what a sunrise it was to wake up to!

Looking back, 2025 was a year where a lot of our plans ended up thrown in the canal. Not how we expected things to go, and we have perfected the art of being flexible!

It was also the year we said goodbye to our lovely old boy, Hamish. Life on the boat feels very different without him.

We want to say a genuine thank you to everyone who’s watched, commented, messaged, and supported us this year. And a special thank you to viewers Sarah and David for the lovely bauble to remember Hamish, it took pride of place on our tree ❤️

Here’s hoping 2026 brings steadier times, even though we are quite sure how that is going to look right now!

You will have seen our friend Phil many times in our videos, and shared the excitement of his new boat a few months ago. Here’s his very scary account of the massive breach on the Llangollen Canal in Whitchurch in the early hours of this morning, when he woke to up the sound of crewing ropes of rushing water and realised that something was seriously wrong and went to wake other boaters 😢❤️
