5 YEARS! 🥳

We can’t quite believe it’s been 5 years since we started this life aboard Narrowboat One Day More! And what a wonderful adventure it’s been. We’ve travelled all over the UK, visiting places we never even knew existed, we’ve made so many fabulous friends, and we have amazing viewers from all over the world on the YouTube channel we never even planned! You really never know quite where life is going to take you, but this narrowboat life has worked out just beautifully.

Poppy and I are holding down the fort on the boat, and the celebrations are on hold for a couple of weeks, as Pete is currently on board a much bigger ship in the Mediterranean with our son Alex, using some of the free family days that he gets with his Viking Vocalist contract! It’s my turn next month! 🥳🛳️

One Day More Aboard

No better way to spend an afternoon than with great friends that lift you up! We can’t take the boat anywhere right now, but we can still drive to see boaty friends Fran and Rich and Archie Floating Our Boat for a wonderful Indian feast, with home grown ingredients from their allotment 🍅🧅🌶️

We reminisced about our first meeting in real life exactly 5 years ago, the week before our boat launched. They were moored not far from Debdale Wharf, where we did our helmsman course, and it all worked out perfectly to meet for dinner, after exchanging messages and video calling from Texas. And the rest, as they say, is history. Our prediction that ‘we could be friends with them’ whilst binge watching their YouTube channel came true in the best possible way ❤️

One Day More Aboard

Yesterday we received a photo from our marina friends showing chains at Cropredy Lock and it’s such a sad sight.

Just like last year, the lack of water has brought cruising to a halt. So many boaters, including many friends, have now had to make alternative plans and find different routes because of the closures, or just sit tight and wait for the glimmer of hope of an opening.

But it’s not just boaters who are affected. The impact on the many businesses that rely on the canals for their trade is devastating. Cafés, pubs, boat hire companies, marinas, chandlers and countless other small businesses depend on visiting boats and the people they bring into the villages and towns along the waterways. When the boats stop moving, so does a big part of their trade.

It really brings home just how serious the water situation is this year. We will be heading back to the boat next week to see the situation for ourselves after our little break on land.

We’re incredibly lucky, though, to have such a great community here at Cropredy Waterside & Marina. Even if the boats can’t actually go anywhere, there’s always good company, plenty of chat and someone around for a cuppa or drink! 🍷 🍺 ☕️

One Day More Aboard

A little update!

One week on from my gallbladder surgery and I’m pleased to say things are going well and I’m improving every day. Any movements involving my core have been tough though, getting up, sitting down, turning over… it makes you realise how much work those muscles actually do. I think I’ve finally turned a corner today, so hopefully it’s onwards and upwards from here.

I’m also having to force myself to let Pete do everything, which I’m finding difficult! He really has been the perfect nurse though, even if I’m not very good at being the patient!

Staying in the apartment in Whitchurch rather than recovering on the boat was definitely the right decision. Having the extra space to manoeuvre has made life so much easier.

Hopefully another week of taking it easy up here and then we’ll be back aboard One Day More, to enjoy marina life and fully recover.

Poppy, of course, has been supervising the entire recovery 😂🐾
