CHECK OUT OUR PLAYLISTS below in the "Hockey Archived By Year" where everything is neatly organized and includes lots of other NHL stuff on Youtube! We curate playlists & digital transfers of classic hockey games & documentaries from the NHL, WHA, International all at the highest quality available. Getting HQ (720p+) old games is a trick so many games do not have great picture quality but we are constantly looking for better, if you want to help and have old games to add please contact us about making it available.
Please be patient as this channel is just launching. Will be posting all kinds of lost&forgotten games, all organized chronologically into season by season & playoff by playoff etc. All OUR original posts will be "NO SPOILER" so you can watch old games and not know the score ahead of time. Please support our digital transfer efforts by donating at the Free Minds Patreon: www.patreon.com/free_minds/ (which is linked to our other non-profit curating projects)

I am going to redo some of the 1994 playoffs, probably all the Canuck series except the Dallas series (we'll see, maybe that one too) as I acquired high end digitizing equipment after those were posted so I though get higher quality versions up.

Back at it again, the league has copy right claimed game 7 of Toronto and Los Angeles, although I assume this will only delay posting the game as the league knows very well I have the law on my side. Most of the time they just let my appeals be granted without really even looking at it, but there are select games where they want to be as bullyish as possible under the presumption that if you bark copy right claims loud enough people will just collapse agree with them. IN any case we will see how long they hold it up, they won't take me to court because they know I will win. I have to wonder though how many people have paid the NHL for copy permission for games where that is not required?

So the NHL is persisting in its claim that 1993 game broadcasts, specifically between Toronto and Los Angeles, are copyright protected. I am taking it to a second appeal and risking a copyright strike. Intellectual Property Law is clear, after 20 years sports broadcasts enter public domain, as per the 1961 Rome Convention. At this stage the NHL is just saying "yeah, well, we write our own laws and we say it is copyright." Whether Youtube grants them this power or not we will see. But as this page is part of my charitable historical and professional work, I regard the NHL's claims to be a copyright abuse.

So I posted a compressed version of games 5 & 6 like the NHL has on their page but with much more content to provide historical perspective. The NHL immediately copyright claimed the post so I have sent in an appeal. After that appeal is cleared, which I expect it to be, I will post Game 7 with lots of added content. Then it will be the 1993 Stanley Cup Final. I continue to tell the NHL this is a public history project. We do not charge money to watch the games, it is provided free, so blocking it on pseudo-intellectual property basis is just petty. If the league wants to work with the archive so we can do this better and even let the league monetize, they just need to contact me.

I tried to post Games 5 and 6 of the 1993 Toronto vs Los Angeles series but it was flagged by Youtube's copyright engine. Normally I just appeal that decision and it is allowed to be posted (I am on an NHL/Youtube shortlist of approved posters for old games). But in this case I noticed that Youtube's compression engine ruined the video and made it jittery so it is not worth appealing. So if you want to watch games 5 and 6 of that series you can go to the NHL's official channel and they have condensed versions of both games. So I am going to go to digitizing Game 7 in full along with two relevant Coach's Corners, a Stomping Tom Connor interview on "The Hockey Song" done during the intermission of game 5, and also some after the fact interviews on the series with Wayne Gretzky and TSN analyst Bob MacKenzie whom some still blame for Toronto's loss. Eventually we plan to get full video of games 1 through 6 and upload HD versions of all of them, but that will be a bit as we are hurting financially right now because of the Canada Post strike which has decimated our card grading and reclamation business. I have found a repository of thousands of games, most never published online or only published in low quality, that I hope at some point to buy outright from the owner but that will probably be thousands of dollars, so that is a project in progress with no set finish date.
