I coach hikers using hiking-specific functional fitness rooted in strength training, mobility, and breathwork. My clients have checked off bucket-list goals — from multiday thru-hikes to high-altitude summits — while building resiliency for the mountains.

Many of the people I work with have avoided or recovered from surgery and chronic pain, returning to the mountains stronger than ever.

Alongside my online coaching, I’m also a Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner specializing in sports and orthopedic acupuncture. Every year, I host one of British Columbia’s most remote health retreats, 120 miles from the nearest community and 250 miles from the nearest major city.

I summited Mount Kilimanjaro in 2025 and am currently training for Elbrus and Aconcagua.

Follow along to get inspired and learn the same strength, mobility, and recovery systems I use to help clients become mountain-ready.

6 things I wish I knew before climbing Kilimanjaro.

Layers matter. Temps swing wildly, so pack flexible clothing.

Bring games. There’s more downtime in camp than you think.

Plan to tip well. You’ll see how hard the guides and porters work.

Don’t skip the glacier. Quick detour, unforgettable view.

Good headlamp = essential. You’ll use it constantly.

Do an 8-day climb + bring Diamox. Better acclimation, summit.

Night ops on Kilimanjaro.

Most of the days are honestly pretty easy aside from the altitude.

Usually getting in before lunch time.

But on summit day we tried to go to bed early because we would end up starting the summit climb at 11:30PM.

Whether it was excitement or my body just being a little out of wack from sleeping at 4600m. I woke up at 9:30PM and just laid there waiting for our start.

Enjoying those last moments in a warm sleeping bag before it was go time.

I have found I really enjoy those night start though.

Nothing is better than already being well into the mountains and your day when the sun finally rises and starts to warm you.

Do you like hiking at night?

We all make excuses for why we can't have what we want.

Let them go and go get what you want.

This is by far the best I've ever felt in the mountains and I'm stoked to see where I'm at in another couple weeks.

Big stuff coming, stay tuned 🤘

Don't get me wrong you need an aerobic base.

But way too many people have horrible breathing mechanics.

When you learn to breathe properly hiking, running, biking, ALL your cardio activities are going to get so much easier.

It's highly overlooked in most adventure athletes programming.
