Last Lent, I did some posts and reflections on the Stations from the perspective of “What I See.” I’m going to do it again this year, typically in the evening you can expect it. The first set of Stations I’ll be writing about are from my home parish in Oconto.
First Station-Jesus is Condemned to Death
Pilate, in the background, washes his hands.be is staring out into the crowd, probably wondering did he just do and how this will affect him. The servant seems disinterested and is just doing his duty.
Jesus, stands there, humbly accepting his fate. He knows the Father’s bigger plan. The soldier, about to lead him, doesn’t know what to think. Should he be filled with hatred or compassion. These moments he shares with Jesus, we will never know how it affected him but certainly it did.
Lord, let me stand close by you, I wish to follow you along the way.

Everytime I sit in the library at our school, I think back to some of the books I read as a middle schooler. For whatever reason, the book Bud, Not Buddy, stands out in my memory. I think of The Boxcar Children, and the historical series from Dear America. Each of these books, and every book for that matter, is inspired by an author. If it's fiction, their imagination informs and creates the story. If it's historical, research guides the writing process. The author receives inspiration. In the Letter to the Hebrews today it says the Holy Spirit says, and then quotes a passage from the Psalms. It's a good reminder to us that the Word of God is inspired by the Holy Spirit. There are human authors, like Moses, Isaiah, Jonah, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and St. Paul. But these authors were inspired by the Holy Spirit in their writings. Maybe we can all take a moment to reconnect with the stories that shaped us—whether they’re from our favorite childhood books or the eternal Word of God.
I'd be curious to hear your favorite book from your youth! And maybe one of these days, I’ll revisit the literature of my youth.

Over the last few weeks, especially through the great reporting of Sancta Familia Media in Scotland, I’ve seen pictures of several dioceses inaugurating the jubilee year and the holy door. Each picture had a cross which was central. This is my first time participating in a jubilee (I was 11 at the time of the last jubilee in 2000). What I observed was each diocese had a unique cross with which they processed. I’m sure each has a story. Here is the Diocese of Green Bay’s cross- a mission cross, which in German says “He who perseveres will be blessed forever.” I’m going to make that phrase a focal point of my meditation for the jubilee year.
