Steps of an Owlet

Like a young owlet learns to explore the world, taking small steps toward flight and wisdom, our channel guides children and teens through their growth journey. At Steps of an Owlet, we believe every child is born with a natural sense of wonder, and with the right guidance, it can transform into lasting wisdom and holistic growth.

We present mindfulness, life skills, and philosophy for young minds, helping them develop a confident outlook toward personal challenges and growth. Wisdom doesn’t come all at once—like an owlet learning to fly, it comes step by step.

Steps of an Owlet

I request all teachers and educators to ponder and see what can be done.

In my school life, I would comfortably ace subjects and evaluations inside a bubble. All my study, diligence, and hard work were anchored in my competitiveness, not intrigue or imagination. I took pride in my competitive spirit, maybe because I was on the side where the grass was greener.

Based on the conventional wisdom of my well-wishers, I was suddenly catapulted into a space (Kota, Rajasthan) where being a scholar was the bare minimum. I had never witnessed such sheer quality and innate intelligence in people. The gap was evident and intimidating, and for the first time, I wasn't on the side where the grass was greener.

I realized my cherished competitiveness was tied to circumstances, and I had no answers when my peers were potentially better than I was. I gradually lost hold of the only anchor I knew, and I couldn't timely evoke my curiosity or joy of learning because I didn't know how to do so.

When competitiveness is your only fuel, you collapse the moment you can’t win.

I, too, collapsed, but it was a blessing in disguise, because I was forced to confront that I had never really learned how to learn for myself.

I discovered learning in its most intimate form. It felt unfamiliar at first, almost like meeting a part of me I had ignored for years. But over time, I found a new kind of anchoring, my own equation with knowledge, that felt like a self-contained universe - quiet, personal, and deeply mine.

It made me realize something unsettling about our schooling.

We never teach children how to build their unique relationship with learning.

Instead, we ask them to observe what others are doing, match them, and eventually outperform them. In doing so, we load them with an emotional, cognitive, and intellectual burden far heavier than any syllabus, and we then wonder why so many children feel crushed long before they reach adulthood.

Perhaps the tragedy is not that we fail to nurture curiosity. It’s that we fail to see the simplest, most essential truth - learning is supposed to be a relationship with oneself, and when it is missing or poorly developed, a child has nowhere safe left to go, not even within.

Steps of an Owlet

Last year, on this very date, I started working on the first video for 'Steps of an Owlet'.

The channel was never really on the cards. I was always a writer of pithy quotes. There was deep satisfaction in telling tales of the universe in a few words. It was like snatching a cluster of stars from infinity and bundling them into a piece of writing.

But when I decided to work on short stories for children, I felt limited and incompetent. The spirit of a child never intends to snatch but to observe. It never intends to fold but to unfold. With this realization, I sensed a shift within me. My approach changed, and I started unfolding my pithy quotes like a child. I finally found the key to turn my fresh or long-held abstract thoughts into child-friendly conversations and imagery.

In the process, I discovered many simple life lessons that were hidden in the small bundles of my past work. This unexpected discovery and a sense of guilt inspired me to explore new channels and art forms to share these lessons with children, young adults, and everyone else, for that matter.

Steps of an Owlet is one of the first outcomes of my newfound zeal. The first year has been about unfolding and unlearning. The next will be about growing and giving.

Do subscribe to our channel if you like the philosophy behind it :)

Shruti and Smriti – A Thought for Young Minds

Look closely at this painting.

At the top, there's a bright golden Sun, glowing above the ocean.
Below it, two gentle hands are holding a soft blue orb, floating in the waves.

This artwork is called Shruti and Smriti.

The Sun stands for Shruti - the truth that always is.
Like the sun, it shines by itself. No one holds it. No one created it. It just exists — forever.

The blue orb in the water is Smriti - like a memory.
It’s what we remember, hold, and pass on.
Smriti is shaped by people told through stories, poems, lessons, and songs.

The ocean in between is like life.
We live in its waves.
We see the sun, but we hold the memory.

So Shruti is the truth that is heard, and Smriti is the truth that is remembered.
Both are important.

One teaches us where light comes from, and the other how to carry that light forward.
