The C.A. Quintet channel is a continuation of a creative impulse started by musicians/artists from Minnesota (USA) in the 1960s -1970s. We still follow the path of no rules, no fear, no envy, no meanest and we are best known for our 1969 TRIP THRU HELL album.
In addition to our more well known music, on this channel you will find never before released music and information about the band as we will continue to add videos in no logical order as time and we go by.
We recorded most of our studio music from 1967-1973... yet here you will find recordings (including live material) into this century when we were inducted into the Midwest Music Hall of Fame.
We prefer to fly under the radar as we never did this for attention or money. They can buy a short thrill, but never peace of mind
THE TRIP GOES ON ... enjoy it as best you can

We dedicate this to Doug Reynolds, Tom Pohling, Donnie Chapin and Rick Patrin without whom this music could never have been imagined

Trip Thru Hell Album Restored and Remastered
I have some very good news regarding the restoration and remastering of the Trip Thru Hell album
Listening to fake copies and even legitimate reissues of the album over the years, l always had the desire to restore the music back to the way it sounded in the studio in 1968…. and then take it to a much higher level with modern software. I have made great strides recently and am very close to making making it available to you…. I even spent some brief time recently with a master recording engineer who has remastered music for everyone from Elvis to Prince to Van Morrison. His comment was "You have progressed orders of magnate more than is typical in mastering and I would hesitate to work it further". Coming from him that was reassuring.
When the remastered album is close to being available, the only place information and updates will be found is right here.
However you can send an email to info@caquintet.com and let us know if you are interested and we will email you as more information is available. We already have requests to purchase and we are not close to that point yet .... but we will put you on the list
Quality is different from Quantity

Happy Holiday... below is the Logo for the bass drum for the C.A. Quintet... it was designed by our first drummer Paul Samuels .... He was still in high school when he played on our first records that were on the radio ..( Mickey's Monkey, I Want You To Love Me Girl, Ain't No Doubt About It) and then left to study at an elite art school. Paul went on to become a successful painter/artist and played drums for a number of jazz groups in the northeastern part of the United States. Paul recently sent us this image and gave us permission to share it with you....

UP NEXT.... WILD CHILD ,,,, 1971 live ,,,, basically a jam .. which was typical of what we did....
We will get Wild Child up before the holiday weekend (end of May) as I am heading out to be a cowboy again in Wyoming that week... I always wear my Captain's hat (as opposed to a cowboy hat) when riding a horse so the horse and the rest of the cowboys know who is in charge....
For the 4th of July weekend we HOPE TO put up a TEST PRESSING of a new 2025 remaster of SIDE ONE of the Trip Thru Hell album ... we hope you will help us evaluate it .... then at some point we will put up SIDE TWO
Both "Wild Child and "Side One" will only be available on this channel as we like to provide at least one place in life where there is not an advertisement

This was just uploaded for subscribers.... it will not go to the streaming sites,,, THIS WAS MOVED TO THE C. A. Quintet complete PLAYLIST
We found this final version of this recently and will put it on the channel just for you ...for no other reason than we like you :} .... Following are the details that will post in the detail section below the video
Porcelain Bowl Blues is an original song and this version was recorded in the attic of my home (Friday the 13th) October 1995..... Twenty four years after our last performance in 1971.
This was the first time Doug Reynolds, Tom Pohling and myself had seen each other since the early 1970s. And this would have been a reunion of the members who were on stage that last night. But unfortunately Donnie Chapin (our drummer) passed away in 1984.
We gathered in Wisconsin up in the attic of the house I built with a little help from my friends (and a lot of help from a few)
Tom came up from Oklahoma, Doug from Minnesota… and a friend of mine Jeff Anderson joined us on drums.
Even though we had not seen each other in almost 25 years, the moment were back together it was as if time had not moved a second in all those years. And when we began to play it was like we were just playing the next song in the set and no time had happened since we played the song just before …
we were right back there as if it was still a night in 1971.
We never imagined anyone would ever care about what we did that night so we plugged in a small reel to reel tape recorder and let it roll. We played this song many times back when we were playing in the bars and ballrooms, but this recording on that night always will be my favorite … as it comes with a little magic …

What we are working on
1. Remaster more live and acoustic recordings
2. Remaster some studio recordings/outtakes
3. Remaster the entire Trip Thru Hell album (a longer term project)
4. Finish Part 3 of “The making of the Trip Thru Hell album”
5. Put up surprises we totally forgot about (just came a recording of Doug and I writing songs in 1967)
6. Attempt to record new tracks on older recordings and see how they sound
7. Enjoy the summer and fall as we hope you do as well
We have 5 TB of C.A. Quintet material to work with (not all music)
We will take things as they come … “instinct says you’re a genius in disguise”
We do this for fun, for you and to honor the people no longer with us that helped make the music...
Tom Pohling, Doug Reynolds, Donnie Chapin, Rick Patrin
Better get moving…. much to do

Next video ... next week... "Painting Satan" ..... In 1973 a friend talked me into watching the Exorcist on acid. Neither had much of an effect on me... but afterward I wrote a song called “Painting Satan” ... It has never been made public before... after talking with a few of you, I decided that you might find it interesting,
I am very hesitant to do this as I stopped doing drugs in1974 and do not want to encourage using them. Having said that, we all have to make our own decisions and way in life ... this experience and song were part of my journey.

March 11 2025 Semi-annual C.A. Quintet banquet … minutes
Duly “reported” by K Erwin …. who was forced into the position of “organization secretary"
The meeting opened by thanking all members in attendance including subscribers to the C.A. Quintet channel who were able to join telepathically. Jim Erwin was excused for a minor medical condition that would not have stopped anyone else.
By unanimous decision it was decided that in the future Jim will need to provide a written note from his doctor and wife prior to being excused from meetings despite their frivolous nature.
The meeting got off to a roaring start (and traditionally late) when the manager of the establishment mistook Rick Johnson for a homeless person wandering in from the street.
The matter was quickly resolved with the flash of an American Express card. Such events would be very embarrassing for most. But just a normal event in the life of Rick as a founding and long standing member (and now only capable of short standing)
Many frivolous and unimportant subjects were discussed. All of which were comprised of petty subjects and complaints about personal situations. It is duly noted here that all other members hearing these complaints ignored them unsympathetically.
The meeting never addressed the formal agenda (traditional) and no motions were brought to the floor… only food that fell there as a result of poor eating habits.
All in all the event was declared a success (which is traditional) However it is noted that it was an improvement over some past meetings as no member was removed from the establishment or detained by local authorities.
These minutes are dutifully reported with minor embellishments and misleading comments.
Yours
K E. Organization secretary

Greetings... just finished remastering "Evil Ways" from our live 1971 recordings.. We were wondering if we should include it on the new live 1971 remastered LP/CD that we are putting together and will put it up on the channel later this week to see what you think. I got tired of looking at our faces in these videos (especially mine ) so I did something a little different with this one ... but I think you will survive as you seem to adapt well
...You may have noticed we are not great at making decisions so we are asking for suggestions for a title for the new live album and would love to hear from you as you did a very impressive job figuring out what "C.A." stands for last year...
Finally, let us know if you have one of our live songs that you want us to include for sure in the new release
We appreciate your thoughts and will put up a proposed SIDE ONE of the new album on the channel soon
