Heavenly Homeschool

Welcome! I'm Jess. I am a former public school teacher turned homeschool mom to 4 beautiful girls. As much as I loved my job as a teacher, I was frustrated with the school system and the way they pushed their "one size fits all". education model. I felt sick about how much time I was losing with my own children; dropping them off at daycare at 6:30am - 4pm only to have a couple hours together each night for dinner, bath, and bed. So, I quit my teaching career and we made the change of a lifetime to full time homeschoolers!

I now have a newfound passion to help new homeschooling families make the same change. Here on this channel, I talk about homeschool laws, how to get started homeschooling, how to find homeschool curriculum, and how to establish a homeschool routine. I also give an inside look at our daily homeschool life with vlog style "day in the life" videos so you can see how homeschooling works for our family.

One of the greatest benefits of homeschooling is that we are able to travel and take our learning with us!

We have raw land in North Carolina, right in the heart of Appalachia. We lighten the homeschool load a lot over the summer, but we do not fully take off, so the learning continues in the mountains!

Here's a quick snapshot of some of the learning that happens during our Appalachian adventures.

Heavenly Homeschool

Basically in that order too 🤣

I’ve been on autopilot the last few weeks trying to balance spending quality time with my babies, planning for our next
homeschool year, and running an online teaching business. Add in trying to keep up with my YouTube channel, Instagram, and TikTok’s, and I feel like my brain is operating a million miles a minute.

My Apple Watch has been tracking my sleep and I’m averaging 6 hours a night. Not too bad compared to the 4 I was getting when the baby was much younger, but still not optimal! My personal trainer asked me to try going to bed at 9:30 instead of 11 last night — I didn’t like this idea because by the time I get the kids down around 8-8:30, the 9-11pm window is my sweet spot for getting things done, catching up on shows, reading my books, writing my books, talking with my husband, etc. Bed around 11-11:30 and then up at 5:30am to start the day all over again.

But last night I took my trainer’s advice and got 7.5 hours of sleep!!!! It was GLORIOUS!!!! My watch tracked 2 hours of REM sleep and 1.2 hours of “deep” sleep. My normal is 1ish hours or REM and 40ish minutes of deep.

Still needed this beautiful cup of coffee this morning, but I think that’s more out of habit than anything.

Moms, Teachers, Bosses, or those of you that are all 3 — Do you track your sleep? What’s your sleep schedule like?
