Living up to what I wrote at 16 "A type of person who lives life to the fullest, learning and exploring from my mistakes but never regrettingšššš"
UGLY TALK @ Shopify NY 2025 Learnings & 2026 Priorities
Big room, honest takes.
2025 was noisy. Winners cut through signal vs hype. Community beat campaigns. Misses ā fast pivots mattered more than perfect plans. 2026 = operational discipline + repeatable advantages, not trend chasing.
Growing up in Ethiopia at 16, while figuring out what type of future I wanted.
I had this vivid image of a global company based in NYC.
I hadnāt been to NYC before, and my family did not run a company.
But something told me to start pursuing it.
And it was not a straight line, so I took the next available action
At 18, I applied to 20+ colleges around the world.
Ended up in Germany studying Industrial Engineering.
After 100+ internship applications during COVID, at 20 I found myself at Mercedes-Benz doing finance automation.
At 22, I became a consultant managing global finance automation projects.
For some unexplainable reason, it felt like it was time to move to NYC.
Shortly after, I quit the job and moved to NYC at 22.
Did an MS in Finance as itās a complementary skill for building a company.
At 23, launched GenAIx as a consulting company. Always loved education, and we spent a lot of time educating.
An amazing team grew after 200+ interviews.
After 1.5 years at GenAIx, we launched a unique platform for companies:
Moves with the market, Analyzes org charts, Maps AI skills and risks across the org, Creates personalized courses and workflows.
2026 is the year of organizational transformation, and GenAIx is the personalized consulting& EdTech SaaS platform that transforms organizations.
But most importantly, in 2026, if you have a vision or even a small hint of where you want to go, give yourself full permission to go after it ruthlessly!

Private Markets Panel:
Key takeaways:
Access + networks quietly shape outcomes Who can invest often matters as much as who
Strong companies still go unfunded (timing, positioning, visibility)
Fundraising is relationship-first In 2026, content + personal brand = trust

Entrepreneurs Roundtable at Mastercard NYC
Great panel from Mirit Lugassi from @Laconia Capital
Great perspective on the world of early-stage investing
A few insights that stood out:
Early traction doesnāt just mean revenue; pilots and clarity of thinking often matter more than perfect metrics
Strong founders articulate why now just as clearly as what theyāre building
Investors also think about how belief is passed on to the next succession of rounds and clarity around when to raise the next round

2026 is the year the market shifts from AI infrastructure ā AI implementation.
2025 saw massive investment in making the tech work.
Now companies have the tools, and people want to actually use them.
The real question in 2026:
How do you integrate AI in a personalized way that delivers real ROI?
At GenAIx, weāve focused on the application + education layer for the past 18 months.
Thereās still work to be done on infrastructure and energy, but
2026 is the year of practical AI use cases.

What most startup founders miss is the importance of building with a team vs. having the typical one co-founder.
Iāve come to understand this much more deeply while building GenAIx
A company is literally a collection of people working toward a common goal.
Yet most entrepreneurs are scared of ālosingā equity.
Personally, Iād rather bet on a bigger pie with a smaller slice than a small pie where I own most of it.
Because leverage comes from a collective vision thats big

One best things about building a company is the impact
Creating something new can multiply impact and value for a lot of people in a way that never existed
Best part you get to do it with amazing people
The hard part, the amount of uncertainty and growth that comes navigating it
Icing on the cake, you get to grow personally by navigating that and showing up persistently
