Mildred loves her gel cooling mat! We are all surviving this heatwave. We have two AC units and all the curtains and blinds are drawn to keep the relentless sun out.
Baking fail! As part of my 50 new things in my 50s I tried to make bagels and utterly failed. Here in Vienna there just aren't any good bagels, so I wanted to try and see if I could make decent bagels at home. I bought bread flour, barley malt syrup and followed a New York Times recipe. I even kneaded it by hand for 20 minutes (I don't have a stand mixer and that's what the recipe called for).
It all seemed to go well, the dough came together really nicely, I shaped and then chilled them in the fridge for 24 hours. But as soon as they hit the boiling water they started to deflate and then kept deflating in the oven. They are chewy and have a good flavor, I'll give them that, but other than that they aren't great.
So if anyone has advice on what I might have done wrong, or if you have a tried and true bagel recipe for chewy New York style bagels, help a gal out.
Mildred and I have an important announcement: my YouTube break is officially over! 😊
First, thank you all for your patience, kindness, and encouragement while I took some time away. I was honestly overwhelmed by the thoughtful comments and support on my break announcement. It meant more than you know.
My new video premieres tonight at 6:00 PM CEST.
After taking a month away from YouTube, I found myself reflecting on quiet lives, slow living, creativity, turning 50, and whether a life that feels wonderful to live necessarily looks very interesting online.
It's a cozy, reflective vlog filled with homemade muffins, planting, cross stitch, Mildred, and a few thoughts I've been wrestling with lately.
Hello my dears, I’ve decided to take a bit of time off from posting new YouTube videos for a few reasons. The main reason is that I’ve been dealing with a bit of an eye infection that is causing some blurred vision and it’s been difficult for me to be on the computer for long periods. So writing and editing videos has been a bit difficult for me lately. So I’d really like to give myself time to rest and heal.
Another reason I’m taking a break is to essentially get my “Mise En Place” regarding my channel. Lately my videos haven’t been getting much traction and honestly it’s starting to weigh on me. I feel like I just can’t figure out the formula. Most of my videos are only being viewed by less than 10% of my subscribers and I’m just not sure what the issue is. Is it that the subject itself isn’t interesting? Is the thumbnail or title not catchy enough? Getting the right formula for videos to not only be seen by my subscribers, but also to attract new viewers and hopefully subscribe, seems elusive to me.
Of course I don’t want to overlook the people who DO watch my videos and comment and do all the things that help my channel grow, because I see you and I appreciate you so much! I know that comparison is the thief of joy, but it’s so hard to see other creators in the same or similar niche (some doing the same videos as me) growing by leaps and bounds, while I struggle to get seen even by the people who subscribe to me.
So anyway, I’d like to take this break to learn a few things, maybe re-evaluate how I do things and get my ducks in a row to start creating better, more interesting content for you all. I’m always open to suggestions or ideas to help make my content interesting and entertaining for you.
I’m hopping to just take the month of May off, but we’ll see how my eye feels in a few weeks. Thank you and I love you all!
I had fully intended to have another video out for you all this evening, but on our last day visiting Prague, I got sick. It's just a cold, but boy did it kick my butt. I've been a bit out of sorts for the past week, and just wasn't able to get the video recorded. I'm starting to feel better, and I'm hoping that my voice is better and the congestion is gone enough to film this week. I'm certain you don't want to hear my stuffy nose/voice in a video.
However, that means that I'll be putting my video out next weekend, on Easter Sunday. Though I don't celebrate the day myself, I often worry about putting videos out on holidays. What are your thoughts? Do you still watch videos on holidays or do you tend not to get onto YouTube?
Anyway, here are some photos from my 50th birthday trip to Prague. I'll (hopefully) see you very soon.
This was my outfit this past weekend to check out the Vienna St. Patrick’s Day parade …spoiler alert, it was a sad little parade 😫.
You know, Vienna does a lot of things right, but they just haven’t gotten the hang of a good parade.
Anyway, I wanted to include all the colors of the Irish flag in this outfit and I really love this look. I’m spending the day cleaning the house and packing for our trip to Prague because tomorrow is my birthday!

I’m turning 50 soon and just posted a new video talking about getting older and trying some new things this year.
The video also includes some old photos of me as a kid, teenager, and young adult… which means you can witness several decades of hair and fashion decisions in one convenient location 😂
Quick question for you: How do you feel about getting older?
New video is live! A cozy, subtle ASMR journey through some of my fragrance collection.
It’s a day later than planned (I had a few editing and technical hiccups that took longer than expected) but I’m really happy with how this one turned out.
I’m sharing my perfume collection in a softer, more relaxed style. Think cozy, slow, and atmospheric - a gentle ASMR if you will.
If you enjoy gentle, descriptive fragrance content, this one might be for you.
I just saw this vintage magazine image… and shopped my own closet.
Lately I’ve been looking to recreate vintage fashion illustrations using pieces I already own. Not exact replicas — just translating the silhouette, proportions, and overall mood into something wearable today.
This one is all about structured tailoring on top and relaxed, wide-leg ease below.
Have you checked out my video on these fabulous shoes from @SaintSavoyShoes yet? These are fantastic vintage inspired shoes specially made with comfort in mind.
