After a busy summer — including another big cross-country move for my wife’s surgical career — we’re finally settled again. That means I can get back to pushing record and creating some exciting (and admittedly nerdy 🤓) videos.
This week I’ve been filming content on Z-scores and outlier detection in Python/Pandas, and it feels great to mix teaching with real-world data science examples again.
For the past couple of years, I’ve found so much energy in making content that blends statistics, coding, and practical experiments. Now that my studio is set back up, I’m excited to keep building and sharing.
If you’ve got a favorite data science concept that confused you at first (or one you wish was explained more clearly), drop it below — it might become the next video 👇

Work in progress: Building an in-home air and light sensor node using Raspberry Pi + Waveshare environmental HAT!
It’s logging temperature, humidity, VOCs, UV, ambient light, and GPS location — with plans to add PM2.5 and real-time dashboards soon. Right now it’s perched in a stairwell to monitor air circulation near an open window.
This is part of a larger goal to build a full room-by-room chemical fingerprint of a home using low-cost sensors and Python automation.

“Hey Chris, where did all your NIRS videos go?”
Great question! No worries—they’re alive and well on my new YouTube channel:
🔬📡 AnalytiCode Projects — youtube.com/@AnalytiCodeProjects
Why the change?
I wanted to separate project-based videos from pure coding tutorials. This gives me more freedom to explore! On AnalytiCode Projects, I’ll be combining my NIRS device with Raspberry Pi, environmental sensors, and more. I’m even taking these tools out into public spaces to explore the chemical environment beyond the home—you might be surprised where we end up. 😉
Will Python still be part of it?
Definitely! But moving forward:
• AnalytiCode Projects will focus on the impact of the experiments, with just high-level code discussion.
• AnalytiCode Tutorials will continue offering deep dives into Python, especially for chemists and scientists.
Check out the tutorials here:

And the older videos?
As I’ve grown as a creator (and made hundreds of videos), I’ve decided to remove some of the earlier, lower-performing uploads—especially those with “significant” production challenges 😂
Thanks for being part of the journey. Here’s to the next chapter! 🙏🏽

Environmental measurements can be unpredictable and challenging to interpret—especially when gaps pop up in the data, as you can see in the first figure. In my latest video, I demonstrate how rolling averages can help smooth out those irregularities and uncover the real story behind the numbers. Plus, you'll witness the incredible comeback of Virginia's Back Bay from disaster, all through the lens of data analysis. Curious to see how it all unfolds?
