Bagerhat is located near the world’s largest mangrove forest, the Sundarbans, which makes this region a natural home for a wide variety of fish.
Here, fishermen catch seafood early in the morning—straight from the rivers and the Bay of Bengal—so the fish you see today are incredibly fresh.

Some of the most famous seafood from Bagerhat include:

Hilsa (Ilish) – the national fish of Bangladesh

Tiger Prawns – naturally grown, large, and full of flavor

Crabs – especially soft-shell and mud crabs

Rita, Boal, Pabda, Poa – popular local river fish


Bagerhat’s fish market is known for its authentic taste, natural freshness, and traditional fishing methods. Many international buyers love seafood from this region because it’s chemical-free and caught directly by local fishermen.
