Lately, I’ve been thinking about something that’s been bothering me. In the past, Bang Chan has sometimes said things that boosted fans’ delusions and fed into their parasocial relationships with him. But just a few days ago, during a live, he expressed how annoyed he was by those same parasocial dynamics, which often results in boundaries being crossed

it was obvious he was annoyed in that live especially at fans shoving phones in idols’ faces and approaching them out in public not very politely, basically being disrespectfully parasocial.

I don’t think Bang Chan is naturally “delusional” about fans the way some people claim based on things he did and said in previous Chan room episode. A lot of what idols say or do that looks like “feeding into” delusions is actually fanservice—something they’re encouraged or even told to do by their companies. Stray Kids, at the end of the day, are a K-pop group. And K-pop groups do fanservice.

The problem is when fans—especially grown women at concerts—take this fanservice as literal reality and start crossing boundaries. This behavior can make idols very uncomfortable. So instead of saying, “Oh my god, he’s so delusional, just like us,” we should acknowledge the truth: it’s fanservice. He’s not delusional, he’s doing his job.

Yes you can enjoy the things he says because that's a service for you as a fan you can have a little fan girl moment you can giggle on it but taking it seriously is not healthy

So please—stop romanticizing these parasocial interactions, stop shoving phones in idols’ faces, and respect their boundaries.
