Colours of Everyday Life in Nigeria 🇳🇬🫶🏾

Some of my fondest childhood memories have been ones that involved interactions with traffic vendors and evening trips to street vendors. I recall the excitement of my first bargain and how surprised I was to find out that I could’ve gotten an even better deal.

On this trip though, I kept bargaining to a minimum knowing that with the current economic crisis being the worst the country has ever seen, my extra few bucks might be the difference between a child being able to pay their tuition fee or otherwise. With respect, I haggled the price but not too much. Afterall, they knew I was a “stranger” - people can smell you from far away 😄 especially when you ask “How much bi dis?” .

Nevertheless, I still had to show that I haven’t forgotten my Nigerian roots so I spoke the language, haggled the price and then paid - sometimes more according to my sister-in-law - but that too was fine 😊
