A moment of gratitude: huge thanks to the cover girl, my lovely wife Stephanie, whose wise spirit is also baked into this music’s bones. Thank you to Ben Kane, my friend for decades and one of the most talented people you could ever hope to have sitting on the other side of studio glass. Thank you to Matt Werth and RVNG Intl. who have been standing behind my music for what feels like many lifetimes. And of course, thank you to all of you. What a journey getting to today and I’m so grateful for all the folks out there giving their time and attention to the old yet still thriving art of solo piano music.
‘Will We Be There’, a new song from my upcoming solo piano album Graze the Bell (out 1/30 on RVNG Intl), premieres today with a short film from Bing & Ruth essential collaborator Sébastien Cros.
This song means so many things to me, particularly today as I sit inside my country in crisis, wanting to feel both nothing and everything. The music is my reflection of this liberating/terrifying resignation that washes over whenever I try to make sense of a deeply uncertain political, environmental, social, economic, and technological future. But it’s also, in a more personal way, a return to the body, and an embrace of what makes our humanity so worthy of celebration in the first place ~ a long running focus/guide.
To accompany, we have a new film Sébastien Cros has masterfully assembled, which as you can see is a new apex for him and our twenty year history of making music videos together. What more to say. Thank you Seba.
I’m so happy today to share a new song - Offering - from my upcoming solo piano album Graze the Bell, and the absolute stunner of a film that accompanies it: https://youtu.be/aDx1yv5QUAI
Musically, the spine of Offering is an extension of my never ending quest to move through harmony like water using an instrument that is very much like stone. Spiritually, the song and title both grew from a period in my life that saw intense challenge and wild transformation, both of which required a relinquishing of control - a time when the only way through was up.
The video, inspired by the cross-stitched cover art, took a wild journey through the imagination of visual effects wizard Nick Vranizan to what we're presenting today. We decided early on to shun any form of generative AI and focus on technique and impulse, and I believe it paid off ten fold. It's rare I see a visual for a song so closely match the feeling of playing it, and what he's created here is not just something beautiful in its own right, but also a passage to understanding the music on a deeper level.
I’m so happy to announce a brand new album of piano music - ‘Graze the Bell’ - to be released under my own name on January 30 via the family at RVNG Intl. In so many ways, the journey of Bing & Ruth has always been leading me back to where I began - alone at the piano, which is what we have here.
It’s a dynamic record, and finds footing in both the serene and severe. It is, on a personal note, one of my most favorite things I’ve ever made - and I include in that the cover artwork, an embroidery of my lovely wife that I spent nearly a year cross-stitching by hand. So much of this album was made slowly and by hand - a labor of love in every sense.
There’s much to say about ‘Graze the Bell’, and I will say it all in time, but for today I give you Rush Creek and its accompanying video - shot by Derrick Belcham and featuring me at the helm of the beastly 1987 Hamburg Steinway D on which the full album was recorded. Watch now on the @RVNGIntl channel.
For the physical media lovers (BLESS YOU) we’re doing LPs, including a limited edition Sea Marble vinyl that’s quite the beaut. CDs will be available as an import via our friends Plancha in Japan. Preorders for everything are live right now on the RVNG shop, and recommended!
Lastly, in celebration of the release I’ll be doing a special performance in my hometown of Brooklyn, NY at Roulette on February 12. It will be my first proper piano show in quite a while and I’ll be performing the album in its entirety. I also wouldn’t be too surprised if some b&r highlights wiggled their way into the night as well. Tickets are on sale TODAY.
Thank you my friends <3
‘Graze the Bell’ David Moore, piano Recorded by Ben Kane with assistance from Owen Mulholland at Oktaven Audio (Mount Vernon, NY) Mixed by Ben Kane with assistance from Abbey Lewis at Electric Garden (Brooklyn, NY) Mastered by Alex DeTurk at The Bunker Studio (Brooklyn, NY)
I’m delighted to share a new David Moore song today, called ‘Pointe Nimbus’. It is a simple tune at heart, but one that gets stretched and pulled apart and put back together a few times - like a plastic Satie someone left melting and spinning in the microwave.
The song also marks my first solo piano release since folding back into the RVNG Intl. family and it feels just so nice to be home.

Friends, I’ve got three brand new songs out now. Each is a current musical strand I’ve been tugging at for a while now. Among them we have a new piece for solo piano, a fresh Cowboy Sadness adventure, and the first track from a new collaboration I’ve been cooking up with fiddler Stephanie Coleman. I’m so excited to share these songs with all of you.
The trio of tunes come as part of the Across the Horizon compilation, organized by the man himself Bob Holmes of the Ambient Country podcast (and said genre torchbearers SUSS) and Northern Spy Records. Stream the comp (including these three new songs) here - lnk.to/acrossthehorizon-1 and subscribe to the full series on Bandcamp to acquire the vinyl. Some sweet fellow curators on the project include William Tyler, David Harrington, & Marisa Anderson. A delight to be included in such storied company.

Surprise! I get to share some NEW MUSIC today – a longform piece for stretched piano and pump organ called Butterfly Gardens – landing at this very moment on Bandcamp - bingruth.bandcamp.com/album/butterfly-gardens
One day near the end of winter, I was teetering at the edge of myself – struggling to keep my heart in one piece. So I went to where I usually go when I need to quiet my mind, a small slice of a park near the expressway called Butterfly Gardens.
Sitting with headphones, I stumbled into a pair of recordings I’d made almost five years earlier, the last time things felt this intensely difficult. I sat there listening, and was reminded why I’d stashed them away – they felt incomplete. Now I was struck with how to finish them. I rushed home to the pump organ and recorded this pair of, I suppose, duets with that me of five years ago. In some surprising way we were able to comfort each other across half a decade. It was far out.
The process for putting together a longer piece of music for me is usually measured in years, but finishing this happened very fast and very instinctually. I hope you enjoy it. It’s the closest thing to purely ambient music I’ve made in a long time. For now, this one is only for digital purchase at Bandcamp (where it’s Bandcamp Friday today). It’s also streaming on youtube via a couple of verrrrrry chill videos, watch those @davidmooreforever
HUGE thank you to Nicholas Principe + People Teeth, who heard what I was up to and jumped swiftly on a transformative mix and master. Thanks as well to Brian and Kelli, who built the machine (Monome Grid) I used to stretch and sequence the piano. Thanks finally to my wife Stephanie, who took that polaroid of me moments after the recording was through, and just generally for everything else she is, and everything she is to me. And thanks to all of you. As it turns out, this is the first release solely under my own name in quite a long time, and it feels like just now a beginning. DM
Friends. I started Bing & Ruth two decades ago, and it’s been such a deep privilege to collaborate with so many talented and kind people over the years – and of course to share it all with you. We’ve taken it waaaaaay farther than I ever thought possible.
But, as time has gone by, the direction I’ve wanted to go musically has, more and more, pushed up against the boundaries of what that band had become to me. So, starting with the albums I made with Steve Gunn I began using my real name. It was nice. It felt more honest. I’m going to keep doing it.
I’m not done leading Bing & Ruth, and I’m probably not done writing records under that name, but it’s never felt more important for me personally and artistically to chart a new course. I say all this because it feels like I need to acknowledge the change that’s been underway for some time, and because I’m going to start rearranging some of the digital furniture over the next bit. On that note, head over and subscribe to @davidmooreforever , my new YouTube channel for all things under my namesake. And keep yer eyes and ears peeled – something’s coming…
My collaborative album with guitarist Steve Gunn ‘Let the Moon Be a Planet’ enters the world in full today. You can now stream it, download it, or purchase the LP/CD via the retailer of your preference: lnk.to/rvngnl99. We’re so proud of this record and thrilled to be working with RVNG Intl for its release.
To mark the occasion Steve and I are down in Knoxville, TN today to perform our first concert together at the storied Big Ears Festival. Then in a few days we kick off a small European run of shows, shortly followed by performances in New York City and Philadelphia. All dates and ticket links can be found here: bingandruth.com/live
I’m jazzed to share that this summer I’ll be doing a solo piano performance at Oblivion Access, a genre-bending festival in Austin, TX. The show is with Giles Corey on June 18 and tickets for the fest can be acquired here: link.dice.fm/nf3526ae49d5
