Zack Snyder and James Gunn told different stories. Zack told a story of how people saw Superman (godly). James told a story of how Superman saw people (naturally fallible).
Snyder’s story was perfect and it fit the narrative of what he was saying. BvS perfectly explained this. They didn’t know if Superman was benevolent or malevolent; alien or god; conqueror or messiah. How does humanity come to terms with a Superman?
In Gunn’s story, Superman perfectly describes how he view what it means to be human. Flawed, fallible, scared, but having the courage to keep on trying to do the best he can.
Comparing the two makes no sense as they come from different perspectives.
