🌾 Advance Crop Planning Reviewed by Minister Tummala

In view of the likely #ElNino impact and below-normal rainfall, Minister Tummala held a comprehensive review with officials on advance crop planning for the upcoming Kharif season. He directed authorities to obtain a detailed report from the Meteorological Department by May 15 and prepare district-wise crop plans based on rainfall forecasts and local agro-climatic conditions.

🌾 The Minister emphasized that only fine paddy varieties with strong demand in the open market should be made available to farmers, ensuring better price realization beyond MSP wherever possible.

🥦 Expressing concern over the sharp decline in the cultivation of pulses, millets, oilseeds, and vegetables over the years, he instructed officials to design a focused strategy to increase their acreage. He stressed the need for Telangana to become self-reliant instead of depending on other states for these essential crops.

🌱 He also highlighted the risks of monocropping, noting that excessive paddy cultivation is reducing soil fertility and increasing urea consumption. He pointed out that the imbalance in fertilizer prices is pushing farmers towards higher urea usage and reiterated the demand for rationalization of fertilizer prices by the Centre.

The Minister further directed officials to estimate procurement requirements for the coming season and ensure that seeds of farmer-preferred and market-demanded varieties are supplied. He also suggested holding meetings with millers and FCI to align procurement and market strategies in the best interest of farmers.

Telangana has once again set a national benchmark by achieving 110% of its target in the Farmer Registry enrollment drive under Digital Agriculture initiatives. By registering 43,59,371 farmers against the Government of India’s target of 39,77,791, the state has emerged as one of the top-performing states in the country.
Under the dynamic leadership of Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, this remarkable milestone was achieved through seamless coordination from the state headquarters to the village level. Special mention is due to the Director of Agriculture and the Agricultural Production Commissioner (APC) for their strategic guidance, close monitoring, and administrative leadership that ensured timely execution across districts.
This success would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of field functionaries at every level — Agriculture Extension Officers (AEOs), Mandal Agriculture Officers (MAOs), district officials, technical teams, and support staff — who worked with dedication, commitment, and a strong sense of purpose. Equal appreciation goes to the enthusiastic farmers whose active participation and trust made this drive truly successful.
The sanction of ₹422.64 crore as Special Central Assistance (SCA) stands as national recognition of Telangana’s outstanding performance. This achievement strengthens transparency, enables data-driven governance, and ensures timely and direct delivery of welfare schemes to eligible farmers.
Digital empowerment for farmers — the Telangana way. 🌾
