The Scene was a historic television dance show, produced and aired in Detroit, Michigan from October 13, 1975 to December 31, 1987 on WGPR-TV channel 62. WGPR was the 1st African American owned and operated TV station licensed by the FCC in The United States. WGPR-TV was sold in 1995 to CBS. Nat Morris started as co-host with Ray Henderson and later became the sole host, Executive Producer and owner of the show. The Scene was one of the most popular local shows to air on WGPR-TV 62. Michigan has recognized the site of WGPR as an historical site and in 2021, The National Register of Historic Places listed it as well. The Wm V Banks Museum of Broadcast and Media Arts now occupies the studio where The Scene was produced. Also featured here are clips from "Video Go Go" & "On The Move with Mr. Mal" also produced by Nat Morris. Subscribe & Like this channel. The details have been set for July 19th:
The Scene Throwdown in Geektown – Together Again!
On July 19th, from 5 PM to 9 PM, Detroit’s legendary dance show returns to its original location—now a museum—to celebrate its legacy and raise funds for The Scene Wall of Flame, honoring the show’s dancers, crew, and cultural impact.
For the first time in 38 years, Nat Morris, The Scene dancers, and the original crew reunite at 3146 E. Jefferson, Detroit for an electrifying night filled with rhythm, history, and nostalgia.
The festival-style event features indoor and outdoor celebrations, with tents, seating, and food trucks. At 6 PM sharp, the crowd will go LIVE across platforms, kicking things off with the opening rap, followed by iconic dance styles like The Open and Spread, The Scene Dance Line, The GQ Hustle, and the Boots on the Ground line dance plus a little Jit!
