When you hear "I play by ear", there's usually two types:
1. I just hear what everyone else is doing and just "feel" it. This is implying that you can guess/assume what notes sound good and just roll with it.
2. I understand chord structure and function, and can hear the chords and scales going on, and can jump in with that knowledge.
95% of the time, "by ear" players are #1 and not #2
Guitar is one of the few instruments where mediocrity is acceptable. It's an instrument where most players coast on the easy stuff with no challenges for their entire life.
And avoiding hard things like music theory and heavy technique work is something all other instrumentalists do.
By this metric, you shouldn't wonder why a lot of players are stuck in the intermediate stage.
⭐️So proud of my student Rylan for constantly improving over the years 🔥
Before Shred Theory, Rylan was lost with guitar. He had a self taught background with no formal technique training, music theory, or methods of succeeding.
🔥Today, Rylan is shredding with great technique, understands theory very well, and is on his way to becoming a pro.
🎸How did we do this?
The problem people are missing now a days is we're in a constant cycle:
1. Buy new gear 2. Avoiding the hard stuff of practicing(and just playing whatever's easy) 3. Have no structure and accountability 4. Lack of feedback
If you want to see real results, you have to stop this madness. Time is something we don't have an unlimited supply of, and you're wasting more and more of it every day.
✅ If this is something you can relate to, and you want results like Rylan, I'll leave a link to where you can book a zoom session with me(the same way I met Rylan)
I'm looking for 5 guitar players who want to transform they're playing to have a better career, side gig, or just as a hobby. Guitar is a long and difficult road, but I've created a curriculum to help shortcut a lot of the major bumps in the road for most players. I'll show you what it looks like, help you in any way I can, and answer any of your questions.
🤩So Proud of my student: Meet Nelson(64 y/old) retiree who never had any guitar education and was all about "feel" and "by ear" playing.
🔥Although his constant practicing took him to a decent spot, he always knew something was missing.
✅We took Nelson through a plan, focusing on modern technique with classical based music theory, both on and off the fretboard.
✅With having structure, accountability, and hands on instruction, Nelson was able to breakthrough the plateau he fell onto, and is now thriving and enjoying playing guitar more than ever.
Thinking about doing a Vlog/day in the life style video so you can see my practicing, teaching, and other stuff that kinda bleeds into my busy life lolz. Thoughts?

Rylan has been working with us consistently for a little over a year...
And before this, he had far away dreams of becoming a pro guitarist.
He had zero music theory, barely any technique, and was basically a beginner.
>NOW, Rylan can shred across the fretboard, is confident around others, and is now building his career.

Hot take:
Playing "by ear" is NOT a flex.
If anything, it makes you much worse.
...
Lemme clarify,

I'll make a video about this soon.
