Welcome to Retirement Ramblings. I'm Scott. I'm 64 and I retired on January 5th, 2026. This channel is dedicated to all the thoughts that rumble around inside my head ... from improving my health to making sure I don't run out of money in retirement, to legacy planning, to sharing life lessons that I've learned over the years and hope to pass down to my grandkids someday when I have some.
I hope you will consider following along. Some days may be mundane stuff but I hope at least some of the days will provide useful insights to you.
Should you desire to share something with me in a one-on-one forum, you can reach me at: MyRetirementRamblings@gmail.com.

Today we were in Reykjavik, Iceland where the weather was beautiful. We decided to do the Hop-on/Hop-off bus tour of the city. More details to follow in the near future...

Today we arrived in Isafjordur, Iceland. We took a 3.5 hour tour out to the Dynjandi waterfall where I hiked up to the top viewing platform. The drive to Dynjandi was very interesting. We had to go through the longest tunnel in Iceland and about half the tunnel is a single lane with meet up points where vehicles can pull in to let the on coming vehicle go by.

Today, I attempted to climb the 418 steps up Aksla Mountain to the Fjellstua Viewpoint. I stopped at step 213 and photographed the area. Then I figured 213 up plus 213 down, that's more than 418 steps, so I'm good with that. Plus my legs were buckling all the way down. I did video the climb up with my gopro so you will get to see the effort at some point... Tomorrow is a sea day then we arrive in Iceland on Monday.

Today, I'm in Geiranger, Norway. It was sprinkling this morning but it's clearing up. Town of only 250. I walked the town and it's "suburbs" in about an hour. Mostly gift shops and tour operators. That said, the scenery is beautiful. There are cascading waterfalls all around and steep mountain peaks. I will try and film the sail away this evening to see if I capture it's beauty on film (i.e. digital). I'm not sure it will pick up what my eyes can see.

Today we were in Bergen, Norway. We took the Funicular to the top of Mt. Floyen where it was extremely windy... I even had to put on a long sleeve shirt over my short sleeve shirt to block the wind. Otherwise, it provided beautiful views of the Fjord and city below.

Yesterday I was in Bruges, Belgium. It was very windy as you can tell by the wind blown hair.

Hey Guys and Gals. There won't be a video tonight (day 341 of my retirement countdown). I still haven't finished selecting the travel insurance provider for trip cancellation/trip interruption. I am 99.9% sure I will be purchasing the annual multi-trip Trekker Choice plan from GeoBlue for medical coverage; I am wavering back and forth between the annual MedJet Assist and MedJet Horizon plans for Medical transfer; and I have been reading the fine print across numerous travel insurance providers so I can select the best trip cancellation/trip interruption coverage. I think I have narrowed it down to 4. Still reading reviews before I pull the trigger. I need to pay the deposit on the cruise tomorrow so I will definitely make a decision tomorrow.
Any recommendations? Who have you used in the past? Anyone have any experience with IMG iTravelInsured Travel Essential or Trawick Internation Safe Travels Armor or C&F Travel Insured FlexiPAX?
