Good morning puzzle gurus! We have decided to train Zoey and Ryder for scent work and, hopefully, we can even enter the AKC scent work trial sometime this year. So we will do a live video this Friday at 9 am Pacific time.

If you are free, join us and let’s learn together. All you need is a few small boxes, yummy treats and your furry friend. (Also birch oil if you want to train for the AKC scent work novice trial)

AKC Scent Work is a fun performance sport where dogs use their incredible noses to find hidden target odors (birch, anise, clove, cypress) in various environments (containers, interiors, exteriors, buried), mimicking real-life detection work and allowing them to earn titles through different difficulty levels, fostering bonding and mental stimulation. Dogs alert their handlers to the find through actions like pawing, sitting, or lying down, in a game designed for all ages and breeds.

Happy new year puzzle gurus!

We haven’t framed any of our degrees or licenses. However, we had to frame Ryder’s trick dog title as proud pet parents . lol

What is your New Year’s resolution?
Ours is.
1. Posting videos more often (we will do a live session every Saturday at 9am Pacific time)
2. Getting Zoey and Ryder AKC trick dog elite performer title (the highest title)
3. Drinking more water (us and the dogs)
4. Getting my veterinary pharmacist certificate (in progress)
5. Walking more often and spending quality time
6. Finally telling loved ones “I love you” every day.

According to the AKC, there were 421 border collies but only 17 Shih Tzus to earn the Novice Trick dog title in 2024.

Hope you are having a wonderful Christmas Eve.

Here are a few photos of Zoey and Ryder when they went on a barn hunt last week. (Ryder was looking at me asking, “Why are we surrounded by GSD, Belgian malinois and Australian cattle dogs? Where are all the Shih Tzus ?”) 🐶

By the way, they had so much fun and, of course, Zoey found the rat no problem. 😉 Has anyone tried a barn hunt or is interested? Please leave a comment.
