Welcome to Dharmajazz. My name is Steve Snelling and my background is in jazz and classical piano, but I've enjoyed playing in hundreds of bands in a wide range of styles. Dharmajazz is a collection of tips, tools, and resources I've gathered over the years for learning and teaching music. Dharmajazz focuses in large part on tools for improvisation, but the primary mission is to help people make better music, regardless of style. Dharmajazz is also the YouTube home of my practice and teaching resource book, The Road to Aqaba — Practice Strategies for the Jazz Pianist (available ONLY at Dharmajazz.com). Please subscribe and leave a comment on a topic you would like to see addressed on this channel, and remember, "It's only a matter of going!"

Here's a post from my Covid-era #365Challenge series. The connection with my DJ channel is that my off-the-cuff rendition contains a lot of the compositional concept of AAB constructions. Enjoy!

More review of my 2020 #365 posts. I think I'd been listening to an old Brecker album, absorbing a tiny bit of his harmonic motion. "More-Info" about the post ties in with the musical vibe - and my emotional state at the time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kz_LI...

Dharmajazz

Greetings DJ subscribers! Weeding through some posts from my artist channel (youtube/stevesnelling) and came across this post from my #365challenge.

Relevance for Dharmajazz is few fold: in-the-moment improv', playing fluidly from contemporaneous inspiration; reminder that, in spite of my current level of exhaustion from having wrapped a year-and-a-half long stint as music director in a warm community/catholic church, culminating in an EPIC candlelight Vigil, and facing recalibration of a new "normal" for my income and 2-4-7— I believe I still have some value to offer a wider audience. And, some encouragement for you, when feeling adrift in the eddies of self doubt, to take a beat and recognize your own gifts and possibilities. Enjoy!
