JOKING aside, I did London HYROX this weekend. I only told friends and family because, frankly, the internet treats HYROX like Kathleen Kennedy respects Star Wars. And yes, admittedly, I was one of the cynics. Right up until someone said, “You can’t slate it if you haven’t done it.” Annoyingly fair. So I did it.
My verdict? For what it is, I'm not sure it's worth parting with £150 for the privilege of a Velcro badge you have to buy a special backpack to attach to. I half-expected my mum to sew the patch onto my towel like one of those Frosties swimming badges of humiliation.
What actually surprised me was the people. REAL people. NORMAL people. All ages, all abilities. Not just the online stereotype montage. Turns out the algorithm lied to me. Again.
I trained in silence because the moment a nerd admits they enjoy fitness, someone yells “FAKE NERD” like it’s a witch trial in the Old World. Apparently you’re only allowed one skill tree.
I will say: - it was organised well - every judge and staff member I encountered was very friendly and approachable - loads of free stuff - very supportive atmosphere
And honestly? It’s no different to Warhammer. People of all ages, all skill levels, turning up to push little plastic men or sleds and have a bit of fun. It’s not that deep.
So here’s your public service announcement: You can lift weights and lift dice. You can run races and run campaigns. Spend £150 on some plastic soldiers. Spend £150 on a fitness race. Or both.
To my own fellowship, my battle-brothers, and everyone quietly carrying their burdens: you’re not alone, and you matter more than you know.
This month, I’m making my own contribution to Movember, and it’s something that truly means a lot to me.
So many of the people in my community are wonderful nerdy men, and supporting men’s health is something I care about deeply. Movember sets a 60km goal, but I’m aiming for 100km, partly for the challenge, partly because I want to do a little more for a cause that matters. At the end of the month, I’ll be donating £1 for every kilometre I manage to run.
I’m not asking for donations because this time of year can be financially tough, and it’s hard to know where to give when so many causes are calling for help. This is simply my way of showing up for the people who show up for me.
Someone suggested in the comments on my most recent video that it would be fun to cover orks in October. I'd much rather showcase your miniatures than random ones I find online! If you'd be happy to share some photos or even videos I can use as overlays - please get in touch! Drop me a DM over on Instagram, an email or reach out to @salty_gaminguk if getting hold of me feels like catching the golden snitch in a hurricane.

Look mum, I’m officially THAT person.

Gatekeepers can roll a critical miss.

Yesterday I went to a gaming expo and ended up on a total nostalgia trip and wasn't mad about it at all.
What are your favourite games that bring back the nostalgia?

Do you play or paint orks?
