Yesterday I asked, “Do Christians sin every day?” The results were interesting! The majority answered YES, so today I want to share my biblical perspective on this question. Thank you to everyone who voted and shared your thoughts! 😊 I wanted to give everyone a chance to respond before sharing my thoughts.

I’ve often heard people say, “We all sin every day.” But is that actually what the Bible teaches?🤔

Scripture certainly teaches that Christians can sin. Some of you mentioned Romans 3:23 and 1 John 1:8. Both are important Scriptures. Romans 3:23 tells us that “all have sinned,” but it does not say that ALL CHRISTIANS SIN EVERY DAY.

Likewise, 1 John 1:8 teaches that we cannot claim to be without sin, but just a few verses later John says, “these things write I unto you, that ye SIN NOT. And if any man sin…” (1 John 2:1). Notice that John says “IF” we sin—not that Christians do sin every day. In fact, his instruction is “that ye sin not.” We have to allow Scripture to interpret Scripture and read each verse in its context.

I’ve personally had days when I was fasting, praying and studying the Word, with no social media or other distractions, and my mind was focused on God. Looking back over those days, I cannot identify anything I knowingly did or thought that was sinful.

Does that mean Christians never sin or that we can reach a state of sinless perfection? No. But there is a difference between saying Christians can and do sin and saying every Christian sins EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Romans 6:12 tells us, “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body,” and 1 Corinthians 15:34 says, “Awake to righteousness, and sin not.”

As believers, we should not expect to sin every day as though daily sin is inevitable. Our desire should be to walk in obedience to God and yield to the Holy Spirit.

This is why it’s so important to examine statements we’ve heard—even commonly repeated Christian statements—and ask: Does the Bible actually say that? 📖

Always remember: When studying Scripture, Context is King! 😊❤️
