Okay. I gotta rant a bit. How is the Expanse show so different from the books. Like actually how? It fundamentally changes the characterization and dynamics of all the characters, and how the plot events unfold. Like what?

Jame Holden was the XO on the Canterbury. What is this side bit where he was going to get promoted to XO because the previous XO went mad? Like what? And why isn't he a righteous guy to a fault. They made him such a more aggressive and blunt dude. And why is Naomi basically a girl boss now. When the Canterbury is destroyed they make her the defacto captain basically. Everyone is listening to her and not Holden for some reason. Which led me to the next bit that the Canterbury crew is weirdly more aggressive to each other. There is so much hostile. Like why?

I get that changes will happen in an adaptation but I didn't expect the fundamental change on who these characters are.

And the event are so different. Why did they make the reveal of Mars attack basically Holden saying "Yo! Holden here. Mars attacked us. No, I won't give any pictures or videos or explain myself. I am just saying it." In the books he wanted to make sure people understood who attack the Canterbury and the Scopuli. He gave them so much evidence. And he didn't say it was Mars. He just implied it. Holden was so much more smarter in the books. This guy in the show isn't. Its so weird man.

And Miller just finding out that the Scopuli was an OPA thing by himself is so dumb. The point of Miller's investigation is that it was slowly uncovering the mystery behind everything and how its all connected. It was very slow and I do think some parts of the book should have gotten a bit shorter like Eros station bit. That was long. Like really long. I get it was to establish Miller losing more of his humanity and really show the consequences of the protomolecule but it was long.

But cutting the investigation short is a strange decision.

And some minor nitpicks here and there I have is why is Alex not a fucking Texan. Yeah its silly and weird but I like. It paints Mars very well. They are a planet of people wanting their independence and the best way to showcase that is through this very overt way. And also why is Alex not buff? I imagined Alex as the big broad guy. Why does he have a fucking headset for some reason. And Miller my man. What have they done to you? I was imagine a 50 year old man who looked like a 60 year old. A man who was obviously depressed and (kinda) suicidal. Where he was literally imagining his ex-wife talking to him. It would have been weird for some people but that was so core to his character. Also I wanted him to look like a noir detective with the longest coat ever.

But taking the show on its own I can get the appeal. It is good at being its own thing and what it does with its version of the character help the version of the story they tell. I like it. But I like the source material way more. I really, really hope the game takes all its events and characterizations from the book. Take some designs. Sure. Whatever. I like how the protomolecule is described in the book but having blue crystals is fine. But please Owlcat take the events and characterization from the books. I swear if its not. I am gonna do something...

So, a bit of an update for you all. My mic broke. Which is great. I bought a new one and it should come sometime today. Which is fun. With that I will make the Veilguard video. It should be finished in time for the game's anniversary. Hopefully... But I don't just want to talk about that. I also want to talk about other stuff. Like I have read the Expanse.

I just finished the first book and I do have to say it is really good. And I can see why people say its so similar to Mass Effect. It has basically the same plot as Mass Effect 1 but is stretched out a lot more. So, the reveal of the Reapers comes a lot later than in ME1 which basically had it revealed at the start of the game. And then the rest of the books is deal with a threat that seems on par to the Reapers. Which I love the proto molecule threat. Its such a cool antagonist and the reveal that the aliens might not have been actually that aggressive is interesting. That they just wanted it to go into the primordial soup of Earth implies that they wouldn't actually harm humans.

It even has the sex scene before the final battle. So, its definitely a Mass Effect clone.

Which leads to the parallel of James Holden. Who I read as a paragade Shepard. They are righteous but they would punch the reporter. And I like how he is challenged in the book as well on this. That his reckless actions have consequences and if he just shut up for a bit there wouldn't have been so much conflict.

But beside that it is a really great book. While Miller is definitely not a great guy I do like him a lot. There is a lot of tragedy to his character and how it is played how is so interesting. I am looking forward to how the TV show adapts his story. Because a lot of it hinges on him being a bit crazy and seeing people. That end of him accepting his fate is very bittersweet.


I look forward to what the game does. I am a bit sceptical but that is mostly due to people using the Expanse to dunk on current BioWare. I am not convinced by arguments that say one thing is trash in comparison to this other thing. But everything I have seen is really good. I am a bit disappointed there aren't any playable aliens or companion aliens. Though I am curious if the game is gonna pull more from the show or the books.

I see the appeal of the Expanse now. And while it is very similar to Mass Effect it has its own thing going one that makes it very distinct. Can't wait to read more of the books and watch the show.

I'M FINALLY DONE with the script...

Its about 57200 words and it will take 8 hours to record. So, this is gonna be a long video. Hopefully I will get it finished in time.

All I need to do is go through it and then maybe send it to people. Do you think some people will be okay with me sending an 96 page script? They won't mind... will they?

Regardless I will get it done one way or another. And then do other stuff. Thanks for being patient.

I don't like MrMatty and the comment section irks the fuck out of me. Literally just people going "Okay Mark. You still fucking suck and its still your fault and you are shifting blame." Fuck man. And the fact that so many are thinking he's saying "Its okay the direction the games went into." When he never said that. All he ever said was that the games were comprised but despite that there is something there. I hate these people so much man.

BioWare devs deserve so much better. And to be fair to MrMatty he did ask some good questions.

I am reading the comic The Missing for the video because I need to check something and this is the DA2/DAI design for the darkspawn. When The Missing was made they had to have known the design for the darkspawn changed but kept up these designs because that would be consistent with the lore. And I like that. Welcome home you weird looking ogre.

So, my biggest issue so far is just that I am a bit busy at the moment and can't get to the Veilguard script. And that some aspects of it I find hard to articulate the feelings I have. But my thoughts on it is that I will only get there if I write. Problem is I can get to 68 FUCKING PAGES and only realize a better way to say what I mean. Causing me to redo some sections.

Its great.

Hey! Its been a bit but I have been just writing my script away. I have been playing Veilguard too but nothing really comes up that I want to talk about that I haven't already discussed. And some things I do want to talk about I want to save for the video. Script is going very well but is extremely long. About 37,795 words. And I am not finished. It probably will be near 45,000 words but I will see. I am getting closer to the end I will hopefully be able to publish the video on DAV's release date anniversary. So, yeah! I hope you enjoy your day!
