I am writing to you from a plane jetting to the West Coast -- San Diego, specifically.

I will be in the city through the weekend. And while I brought my laptop and microphone, I am going to be doing less posting for the next few days as I try to slow down a bit.

I'll be back at it full-time come early next week.

Hey all!

I see some people in comment section are unhappy that some of my videos are being sponsored by Polymarket.

I've responded to a few folks but wanted to put it here so that everyone can see ALL of my thoughts on the matter.

First and foremost, I have been sponsored by brands/companies in the past and am actively seeking to be sponsored by brands/companies in the future.

This is a reflection of the economic realities of being an independent (NOT affiliated with corporate/legacy media) content creator -- on YouTube, Substack and everywhere else.

Surviving on AdSense dollars alone simply does not work unless you have a channel that has 1+ million subs (or more). While memberships help, they don't make the financials add up either (or at least they don't for me..yet.)

The future of the independent news creator then is a combination of free subscriptions, paid subscriptions AND sponsorships.

Every *single* creator I know aggressively courts sponsors. Because, again, the economic realities of doing this without a salary, without healthcare benefits, without legal protections and without all of the other things that come with working for legacy media make it necessary to do so.

I don't know how other people handle sponsorships but here's how I do it:

1) I will ALWAYS be totally transparent about being sponsored
2) I will NEVER agree to be sponsored by any brand that asks for editorial input, oversight or approval of ANY content I make
3) I will NEVER take any money from political candidates, super PACs or ANY group affiliated with either party.

Those are my pledges to you. I have and will continue to stick by them as I continue to navigate the world of independent content creation.

Will every one of you agree with my decision in terms of sponsors? Of course not!

And if your trust in me is so shaky that -- after two-plus decades in political journalism -- you think I would be bought off by a single sponsor, well then I am not sure there's much I can do to convince you.

Just wanted to say it’s a little depressing to me that the Jill Biden video I just posted is already losing me subscribers.

To me, it’s a critically important issue. It’s in the news.

But I think people only want predictable content.

I am not that guy.

I mean it when I say that I am calling balls and strikes no matter what the uniform that the batter at the plate is wearing.

That means that when Trump or Republicans do something dumb, I will call it out.

But it ALSO means that when Democrats do something dumb, I will call it out.

Obviously you are free to unsubscribe whenever and however you choose.

But I would suggest that if you feel as though you can only subscribe to things you agree with all the time, you are drastically limiting your perspective.
