Journey to Sustainable Living

Single-use plastics show how much we rely on throwaway items for convenience. Companies encourage this by selling products with unnecessary packaging and cheap materials. As a result, plastic waste is piling up at an alarming rate. ๐Ÿšฉ

Some ways we can reduce our reliance on single-use plastics can include, but are not limited to:
1. bringing reusable produce bags whenever going to the grocery store (they are often made of natural fibers, and can even have their own tare weight on it) ๐Ÿฅฆ
2. using silicone "ziploc" bags for storing foods instead of plastic ones (they last much longer and most are microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe) ๐Ÿฅช
3. refilling items in from the bulk section instead of buying new items in packaging (it's a good way to reuse those empty jars, and most neighborhoods will have a grocery store with a bulk foods refilling section)๐Ÿซ™
4. bringing your own reusable straws (this change can go a long way for those who like to use straws either outside of the home or inside)๐Ÿฅค
5. bringing and refilling your water bottle wherever you go (we all need water to survive, but let's stop buying plastic water bottles whenever we're outside and let's bring our own - there are refill stations in so many places today) ๐Ÿšฐ

Itโ€™s time to break free from our reliance on single-use plastics and choose reusable, sustainable alternatives. By rejecting disposable goods and excessive packaging, we can reduce waste and protect our planet for future generations. ๐ŸŒŽ

Journey to Sustainable Living

Hello to our wonderful subscribers who have been following our journey! ๐Ÿฅฐ
I know we haven't been on this platform for long, but we have an announcement:
We will be taking a break from posting full videos, BUT we should be back in about 3 months! ๐Ÿซก
The reason for this break is because we have some personal tasks we need to complete in the coming 3 months (we're on a tight deadline) and won't have much time to film or edit right now. We do have some pre-recorded shortform videos that we might post, so we won't be completely MIA, but we're hoping that the time passes by quickly so we can post more soon! ๐Ÿ’Œ
One thing is certain: we WILL be back! ๐Ÿ“† Hope you all can wait; we're hoping to produce even higher quality videos as soon as we're back! Wish us luck! ๐ŸŒŸ

Rainwater gardens are more than just beautiful landscaping jobsโ€”they're climate action in bloom. ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿซก
We saw this beautiful sidewalk strip rainwater garden in an urban area that can experience drought conditions in the summer. Still lush and blooming, it was a clear sign of climate resilience on a hot August day! ๐ŸŒก
In a warming world with more intense storms, rainwater gardens are a simple yet powerful way to build climate resilience. ๐Ÿ’ช
As climate change brings more extreme weather events, like intense storms and flooding, these gardens naturally filter and absorb stormwater runoff. โ›ˆ๏ธ By absorbing stormwater, these green spaces do a great job at reducing flooding, filtering pollutants, and replenishing groundwater.
A simple, stunning way to make our cities more resilient. โœจ๏ธ

When we pick up litter on the streets, the most common things we see are cigarette butts. ๐Ÿšฌ
People often don't see a can for cigarette butts around, so they just toss them on the street. Cigarette butts and other litter contributes to the pollution of our landscapes and waterways while also threatening our wildlife. ๐Ÿ’”
So, please avoid tossing your litter onto the streets, and pick up something you see, even if it's not yours. ๐Ÿšฎ
If everyone picked up 1 piece of litter a day, streets, parks, beaches, and other public spaces would become much cleaner, reducing pollution and making these areas more pleasant for everyone. ๐Ÿฅฐ Removing litter, especially plastics, would reduce the amount of waste entering waterways and oceans, helping to protect wildlife and ecosystems too! ๐ŸŒŠ This simple daily action of picking up 1 piece of litter, if done by enough people, could lead to a dramatic reduction in litter and a more sustainable, cleaner world. โœจ๏ธ๐ŸŒŽ

As the temperatures rise, our water usage often does too. But did you know that conserving water is one of the simplest and most impactful ways to protect our environment? ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’™

Hereโ€™s why saving water is crucial:
- Protects Ecosystems: Reducing water consumption helps maintain natural habitats and supports biodiversity. ๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŒณ
- Preserves Resources: Water is a finite resource, and conserving it ensures there's enough for future generations. ๐Ÿšฐ๐Ÿ”„
- Reduces Energy Use: Treating and pumping water consumes energy. By using less, we reduce our carbon footprint. โšก๐ŸŒฑ

Here are some easy and sustainable practices to save water this summer:
- Fix Leaks: A small drip can waste gallons over time. Check your faucets and pipes. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฆ
- Shorter Showers: Cutting your shower time by just a few minutes can save gallons of water. ๐Ÿšฟโณ
- Use a Broom, Not a Hose: Sweep driveways and sidewalks instead of hosing them down. ๐ŸงนโŒ๐Ÿšฟ
- Water Plants Wisely: Water your garden early in the morning or late in the evening to minimize evaporation and bottom-water if you can. ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒฑ
- Collect Rainwater: Set up a rain barrel to collect rainwater for watering your plants. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿ›ข๏ธ
- Native Plants: Choose plants that are adapted to your local climate and require less water. ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒป
- Reuse Graywater: Use water from sinks, showers, and washing machines for irrigation (make sure it's safe for your plants). ๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿ”„

Every drop counts, and together, we can make a significant impact. Letโ€™s embrace a sustainable lifestyle and protect our precious water resources. ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ’š
