India has incredible sporting talent, but our support for sports is still far from equal. While cricket receives most of the attention, athletes in sports like athletics, hockey, volleyball, shooting, wrestling, and badminton continue to make India proud on the international stage, often without the recognition they deserve.

The biggest problem is that support usually comes only after an athlete wins a medal. Instead of investing in talent from the beginning, we celebrate them only after they've already succeeded.

Take Neeraj Chopra, for example. Before his Olympic gold medal, he was known mostly within the athletics community. After his historic victory, he became a national icon with sponsorships, rewards, and widespread recognition. He deserved every bit of it—but imagine how many more champions India could produce if that support came before the medals, not after.

If India truly wants to become a global sporting powerhouse, we must stop treating recognition as a reward for success and start treating support as the path to achieving it.
