Projects and experiments in physics, electronics, mechatronics/machines, software, instruments and tools, crafts, woodworking and metalworking.
I mainly show things that I make (or have made) and tips from my experience. So this channel is kind of a video blog.
I have a long experience in designing electronic devices, machines, and in particular software and firmware development for embedded systems.
Also see my site/blog AccidentalScience.com where I put articles, often related to the video published in this channel.
This channel started with documentaries, that I almost no longer make, and are collected in a specific playlist.
While I'll try to upload videos approximately once every 15 days or less, actually this will happens as the videos will become available, so I recommend you to subscribe and click the bell icon to get notified when new videos are available.
I am not a native English speaker, however my videos are in English for people from all over the Europe, and beyond.

This is a thermal image of a workpiece on the lathe. Chips are clearly visible while flying off and carrying heat with them away from the workpiece. This and more interesting stuff, like how I discovered a serious fault on my photovoltaic breaker, in my latest video about the invisible world of thermperature: https://youtu.be/CauoZbcuifY

Can thermal cameras fool you?
Think you know the answer? Vote then find out if you’re right 👉 https://youtu.be/CauoZbcuifY
(Hint: both images are the same… but one detail gives away the trick. If you spot it, drop a comment!)

This infrared thermometer looks simple… but it can LIE to you. 😮 Want to know why?
Tonight at 8 PM CET, my new video uncovers the invisible world of heat and how to make accurate thermal measurements. Don’t miss it: subscribe and hit the bell now!
Thermal cameras and IR thermometers are powerful tools… but also tricky. Many people trust their readings, and get them wrong. In this video, I'll show you a simple experiment with a surprising demo.

UPDATE. Hello everybody, I'm back again after a serious hardware issue with my main computer. After repairing it, it broke again two days later! So I had to move everything to a secondary machine. A huge task as I had to reinstall everything TWO times! The most time consuming part was configuring and installing the software. But I also had to learn using a new video editing software as the old one, Premiere Pro CS6, is gone and I can't reinstall it because I lost the original package with the discs.
So I'm gonna use (and learn) Kdenlive 25 and DaVinci Resolve 20. I have to use both since none seems to cover all I need.
I also wrote a couple of presets fine tuned for quality video rendering for Kdenlive :)
So, yeah a lot of work! And now I have a HUGE backlog of to do stuff 🤯

Hello everybody! A long time passed since last video about my DIY Lathe, and a lot of things happened in the meantime.
But it's still here! It's still alive!
A long journey that was quite a challenge, that lasted for a remarkable long time. Not just a DIY project, but the revisitation of how they did make the first metal lathe, from scratch.
The new video showing another small step forward and a short recap will be up tomorrow.

🔧 Can You Make a VCO Without any Op-Amp?
Well, this is what I did, and I'll share with you in this week's video. I stumbled across a quite interesting circuit, and I wanted to give it a try. It is an all-transistors circuit. No integrated circuits. Although by itself it could be a good candidate for an IC. I'll share with you not only the technical results, but also how it sounds 🙂.
The video will be up tomorrow at 7AM.
And for those of you who want a deeper understanding of the circuit, I added a full explanation at the end of the video.
BTW, did you ever had problems with memory cards? Recently I had some, and I'm not sure if it is the camera or the memory card. If you have any hint, please let me know in the comments.

Sorry, because of a mistake a chunk of the video programmed for today was missing in the final product. So I had to recompile it, and it will be up tomorrow at 7AM.

Today I've sent the first newsletter. If you are subscribed (to the newsletter, not to the channel), you should have received it. Check it out in your Inbox. If you have GMail or similar "smart" email clients, look into the "Promotions" or "Updates" folders.
Some content will be made available only via the newsletter.
With this newsletter is included a link for downloading a file containing the extension and template files for drawing front panels with Inkscape.
If you're not subscribed yet, go to accidentalscience.com/regform.php to subscribe for updates and special content. Note: I don't send newsletters on a regular basis.
The software extension and template are free, but --at your discretion-- if you'll find it useful, a small donation by buying a SuperThanks on one of my videos will be appreciated.
