Would you be worried if your physical games stopped working because Xbox's servers went down?

A recent Xbox outage affected more than digital games. Some players found that certain physical games on Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S couldn't launch either.

That got me thinking about a much bigger issue: What does "owning" a physical game actually mean when the disc can still depend on online licensing?

A new adventure begins!

I'm starting my playthrough of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. My first mission went well, but after facing some tougher enemies, I learned that Mordor is not a place where you can rush in without a plan.

Today's experiment didn't last very long!

I tried Swords and Serpents on the NES to see if it would become a future playthrough...and my entire party was defeated in about 7–8 minutes.

I didn't start a new game after the party wipe, but I'm curious:

Xbox is rolling out a FREE Cloud Gaming tier to Xbox Insiders, but I'm not convinced it's as useful as it could be.

If you're only streaming games you already own, is there really much benefit? What about Xbox One Games with Gold titles that are locked behind an inactive Game Pass subscription?
