Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife Lucy Muteke have died after a helicopter carrying six people crashed in Marondera, east of Harare, on Wednesday evening.

Zimbabwean authorities said there were no survivors aboard the aircraft. Police said the helicopter crashed at around 5pm local time, with the identities of the victims initially subject to formal identification and notification of next of kin.

Family spokesperson Herbert Chivayo has since confirmed Chivayo and Muteke were among those who died.

Chivayo was one of Zimbabwe's best-known businessmen, while his high-profile lifestyle and business dealings had made him a prominent figure in the country.
