At the end of December 2029, Drumheller's beloved key attraction and icon, Tyra, the World's Largest Dinosaur will officially shut down, along with the Giftshop and Visitor's Information Centre. This closure will mark the end of an era.
Tyra has been in Drumheller for 25 years!
The Drumheller and District Chamber of Commerce owns the Dinosaur and giftshop announced that the Dinosaur Tyra will be closing during their Chamber's Annual General Meeting which took place on March 26th.
Tyr weighs 65 tonnes and is 25 metres tall, which is four times bigger than a real Tyrannosaurus Rex (T-Rex).
"While this announcement is a difficult one, it's also an opportunity for the Chamber to refocus on our core mission: supporting local businesses, advocating on their behalf and fostering economic growth in Drumheller. We invite the community and visitors to make the most of the remaining years to create lasting memories with Tyra." said Lana Phillips, President of the Chamber.
Tyra's construction started in 2000. From the WLD (World's Largest Dinosaur) Legacy Fund, profits from the admissions and sales from the gift shop have been taken and reinvested into local community projects in Drumheller. $40,000 were contributed in 2024 alone.
"Tyra's story isn't ending - it's evolving. We'll be looking for ways to honour the memories, stories, and community impact that Tyra has created over the years." said Heather Bitz, Executive Director of the Chamber.
The Chamber and Commerce of Drumheller will ensure that Tyra, the World's Largest Dinosaur's legacy will continue, benefitting Drumheller long long after her final vistor's have visited. The Chamber will find ways to remember Tyra's big impact through storytelling and many other projects.

Thursday night, NHL player Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew Gaudreau passed away in a bike accident.
Johnny "Hockey" Gaudreau was an NHL player, and his brother was in the minor league. Johnny Gaudreau was only 31. His brother was only 29 . Rest in peace 🙏
