Nvidia has just announced it's investing $5bn into Intel & will co-develop PC and data center chips with them.
Analyst Chris Beauchamp says this was done "to gain some brownie points with the U.S. government".
This was entirely predictable. If the Trump government made it a signature policy to own Intel then the easiest way for a chip company to get in his good books is to work with Intel, regardless of economic rationale.
It's exactly what I predicted will happen in my video on the topic. Next up, watch as other chip firms like Qualcomm and Mediatek announce they are exploring to move some manufacturing over to Intel.
I just opened Excel to find that now there is a damn Copilot button hovering next to any cell I highlight. Of course with a nice little lag. It's super distracting and it feels like all my apps & operating systems are jamming ever more intrusive AI buttons everywhere, covering up what I want to do & forcing me to spend time finding how I can turn it off (if at all possible).
What are the most annoying AI product integrations you've seen? Alternatively any that you think are done well? I'm making a list for a future video, so feel free to add examples!
Proton is doing a pretty big sale (50-70% off) and I have affiliate links so if you want to get something form them and make me some money here you go:
Breaking news! - Pat Gelsinger just resigned as CEO of Intel.
With this, his massive risky bet to re-shape Intel appears to have failed. I just made an in-depth video about his strategy, the timing of which now seems pretty prophetic, haha. Recommend watching if you want to understand what's going on!
A fantastic 3 hour long reminder for why you shouldn't fall for Zuck's rebranding as some cool guy and why you should never trust him or any of his companies.
Reminder: Nebula prices are going up from $30/year to $36/year starting September 1. Still very reasonable IMO, but it also only applies to new subscribers, so if you sign up before that you can skip this price increase. So if you've wanted a subscription for a while, this might be a good time.
While people are discussing the AI pin, just a quick reminder that 4+ month when I made this video it was already clear why the whole thing *fundamentally* doesn't make sense. It's not just that Humane built a bad version of this product, but actually that the core idea was a bad one from the start.
While I recently tested the Vision Pro, my next video will actually be all about the tech behind "real" see-through AR glasses & why today companies opt for VR headsets emulating reality instead of those. Stay tuned!
Due to popular demand, Lifetime Nebula memberships are back for the holidays and you can now not only buy them for yourself, but also as a gift for a loved one! :)
Why Lifetime? Because on the one hand it gives you Nebula access for as long as you and the service are around, but on the other, it's the ultimate way to help us create new, original videos for you to watch.
We have some *really* big Nebula projects cooking in the background that we think you will love and having a few dedicated viewers willing to pay upfront means we can get to work on more of them right away!
Of course regular subscriptions are also available & how we expect most regular users to get Nebula, so whichever is your preference, here are the links: Lifetime membership & digital gift cards: go.nebula.tv/gift?ref=techaltar Regular subscriptions: go.nebula.tv/techaltar
