This morning, members of the Duke community gathered at Duke's 9/11 Memorial plaque to honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, including six Duke alumni.
On the first anniversary of the attacks, six trees were planted behind Keohane Quad in memory of the alumni lost. The trees, saplings at the time, and are now beautiful and fully grown as we mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11. A wreath is laid at the Duke memorial each year to honor their lives.

History has arrived in Durham 📜
A rare copy of the Declaration of Independence is now on display at the Durham County Main Library through September 20th. It will then move to the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University for viewing from September 24, 2026 through January 3, 2027.

Some Durham neighborhoods can be 10–15°F hotter than others because of differences in trees, pavement, and buildings. Those temperature differences can have real impacts on health.
In our latest Climate Pathfinders episode, Duke researcher Danielle Wagner partnered with community members at El Futuro to measure neighborhood heat using wearable sensors—helping uncover where people experience the greatest exposure.
