Today I’m playing with abstract mixed media using gouache washes, graphite marks, Neocolor II pastels, tempera sticks, and Posca pens. I love how each layer gives me a new place to respond, scribble, soften, or add detail. Abstract art doesn’t need a perfect plan. Sometimes it starts with one brave mark. 🎨

I finally set up my Shinhan gouache in watercolor pans, and I’m honestly so excited about how easy this makes painting. I love having color ready to grab when I’m working on abstracts or tiny mini paintings, and this little setup feels so simple and practical.
In today’s video, I’m walking through how I fill the pans, let the paint settle, and create a full swatch sheet of every color with a watercolor brush so you can really see how each one looks on paper. There’s something so satisfying about turning tubes of paint into a palette that feels portable, organized, and ready to play with.

Today I’m using a Color Cube palette to create two mixed media abstract journal pages in my handmade Bare Spine Beauty journal.Same palette, different dominant color on each page, and the mood shifts completely. I’m layering gouache, gel crayons, NeoColor II, graphite, pencils, tempera sticks, and Posca pens for lots of texture and mark making.

Today I turned one of my handmade Bare Spine Beauty journals into a color palette playground. I used The Color Cube for inspiration, then painted abstracts with the same palette while changing the dominant color each time. I taped off different shapes and layered gouache, gel crayons, Neocolor II, graphite, pencils, and Posca pen for texture and contrast. Such a fun way to study color through play. 🎨
