On this day in Mickey Mouse history, Mickey found himself in a GIANT situation in 1938’s Brave Little Tailor. Following the success of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Walt Disney wanted to give his biggest star his biggest adventure yet, which made the short the most expensive one produced at the time. Adapted from the Brothers Grimm tale, the cartoon places Mickey in medieval times as a humble tailor who, after bragging that he killed “seven with one blow,” meaning flies and not giants, is mistakenly tasked by the king with slaying a giant. Publicized worldwide as part of Mickey’s 10th birthday celebration, the short was nominated for an Academy Award in 1939, though Disney’s Ferdinand the Bull ultimately claimed the prize. To this day, Brave Little Tailor remains one of Mickey’s most iconic and celebrated cartoons.

BEHOLD!! The Dan Povenmire Birthday-Inator!

With this device, I will create a truly spectacular post, wishing ‪@Dantible‬, the co-creator of Phineas and Ferb, Milo Murphy’s Law, and creator of Hamster & Gretel, a very happy birthday.

You see, Perry the Platypus, it all started when Dan went to the University of South Alabama, where he created a comic strip called Life is a Fish for the campus newspaper, the Daily Trojan. He even sold so much merchandise at the campus craft fair that he practically became a one-man business empire. But then everything changed when he dropped out and used that money to become a street caricature artist. And then, out of nowhere, he gets a call from an old friend to work on an animation project, and eventually he even got a call from Tommy Chong himself to animate for his film Far Out Man, which is crazy when you think about it, Perry, because who calls a caricature artist to animate a movie?

From there, Dan wore many hats in the animation industry, not just animating. He was a storyboard artist, director, writer, and even songwriter, working on some of the biggest shows in television history, including The Simpsons, Family Guy, Rocko’s Modern Life, and SpongeBob SquarePants. Honestly, Perry the Platypus, at this point I think he’s had more careers than I’ve invented inators, and that’s saying something.

Then came the big one: teaming up with Jeff “Swampy” Marsh, whom he met on The Simpsons. Together, they developed Phineas and Ferb all the way back in 1993, and after sixteen long years, the series was finally picked up. And when it did, BOOM, the ratings skyrocketed faster than my self-destruct button, which almost never works properly.

And Dan didn’t just stay behind the scenes, oh no. He also voiced characters like me, Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz from Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated, Vinnie Dakota in Milo Murphy’s Law, and the aliens in Hamster & Gretel, and probably some other characters too, but who’s counting?

So, in conclusion, Happy Birthday, Dan. May your day be filled with laughter, creativity, and perhaps even a cake-inator. And Balloony, of course, because he gets very upset if I don’t include him.

Today, we celebrate the birthday of the man who has practically helped shape who I am today, none other than Bret Iwan!

Bret has been behind the microphone as the voice of Mickey Mouse for over 16 incredible years. Stepping in after the passing of Wayne Allwine, he’s helped make Mickey even more iconic and memorable, bringing him to life in almost every Mickey-related project since then!

Always fascinated by Disney’s magic and legacy, Bret pursued every opportunity to become part of it, starting off as a card designer for Hallmark in Kansas City, and later receiving a life-changing email from one of his college friends, a Pixar animator, about over-the-phone auditions to be Mickey’s understudy. After weeks of practice and callbacks, he was offered the role as the fourth official voice of Mickey Mouse.

Around the same time, he was introduced to the Disney Fine Art program, and since then, he has become an official Disney Fine Artist, creating portraits of Mickey, including the Mickey’s 95th Birthday portrait, “Swept Up in the Magic.” This artwork features Mickey in his Sorcerer’s Apprentice outfit from Fantasia. He is only the fourth artist ever to create a birthday portrait for Mickey, a tradition that began in 1953.

Bret is also the first openly LGBTQ+ actor to voice Mickey, marrying his longtime partner, art director Douglas Hoffman.

To Bret, my hero, idol, and inspiration, thank you for everything that you do. Keep bringing Mickey to life, and have the most magical birthday ever!

See ya real soon!
