Almost one year after Andy Fletcher's passing, Depeche Mode has released their new album “Memento Mori”. Anton Corbijn directed this nice video, inspired by Ingmar Bergman's Sevent Seal. A lot of David Lynch's fans love Depeche Mode, and I have a feeling they would have definitely preferred that David L. would have filmed a Depeche Mode's concert rather than a Duran Duran's a few years ago...

In honor of Angelo Badalamenti's Heavenly Birthday, let's watch him on stage during the Festival of Disruption that David Lynch hosted in October 2016 for his David Lynch Foundation. He played live the Laura Palmer's Theme and some of his other iconic Twin Peaks tracks. This Festival of Disruption was one of his last public appearances.

I often like to remind that the Polish Poem song's "real" author is not at all "really" David Lynch himself neither Chrysta Bell, contrary to what is "officially" said but David's longtime collaborator John Neff, as he told Lynchland :

“I wrote "Polish Poem", but they changed one chord after I left and Dave made it so I never wrote it, only played on it, and he paid me as a session musician, not author. [...]. Look up the video for "Real Love" too. I wrote that and the main theme is the guitarkestra. It got used in a Christian Dior ad and the payment from that re-launched me here in Portland.”

Robert Blake passed away this week. His apparition as the Mystery Man in Lost Highway will haunt our memory forever. Barry Adamson wrote the track that can be heard before and after the "showdown" between the Mystery Man and Fred Madison at Andy's party.

Jazz legend Wayne Shorter passed away on March 2nd, aged 89. It's not a very well known fact, but David Lynch was a true admirer of the American saxophonist. When he organized "An Historic Night of Jazz" via his David Lynch Foundation in December 2012, Wayne Shorter was one of the artists who performed on stage, along with his frequent collaborator Esperanza Spalding, Wynton Marsalis and Herbie Hancock (check a few pictures of that Night in the comments).

In June 2013, David also shared a Tweet to call for fan donations for a Wayne Shorter Documentary, "Wayne Shorter Zero Gravity", directed by Dorsay Alavi : “Dear Twitter Friends, help preserve the musical legacy of one of the greatest living jazz legends Wayne Shorter.”

Happy Wedding Anniversary to David Lynch and Emily Stofle, who got married fourteen years ago on February 26th 2009.

Otis Redding’s “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long” seems an appropriate choice to celebrate :

“It’s the version from the Monterey Pop Festival. There was Janis Joplin with Big Brother and the Holding Company doing “Ball and Chain,” Jimi Hendrix’s “Wild Thing,” and there was Otis Redding. When I hear those three things, it just drives me crazy how great they are. With Otis Redding, we reach this place in him, and I just couldn’t believe that version. It was so, so, so beautiful. So much feeling comes through that thing; it’s one of my all-time favorites. I just go nuts. I start crying like a baby when I hear that thing.”

David Lynch's Longtime chief sound designer Dean Hurley has collaborated on a second album of sampling ambient fantasies with Celine Dion-worshipping enigma Romance, on an immersive followup to last year’s ‘In Every Dream Home A Heartache’. ‘River of Dreams’ examines the interior, mental imbalance sewn by obsessive fandom. As the pair explain, “…the same waters that harvest and transport buoyant dreams, often funnel into nightmarish, tumultuous oceans…” [from the Press Release]

“Just as Twin Peaks eyeballed the grotesque energy bubbling beneath the surface of suburban America, ‘River of Dreams’ looks at the same phenomenon using the passing of time as a magnifying component. Lynch's original series was tangled in 1980s and '90s soap themes that have almost lost their relevance four decades later, and so the album’s sanded-down pads, gooey, hyper-emotional loops and detached vocal snippets satirise the past just as much as they idolize it.” [PR]

TODAY I WAS THINKING ABOUT THE SONG 'THE WORLD SPINS' AND I BELIEVE IT WAS MINE AND ANGELO AND JULEE'S FAVORITE SONG WE DID TOGETHER. I THINK IT'S FROM THE YEAR 1987, MAYBE 86, 87 SOMEWHERE IN THERE.

This is currently David Lynch's last musical choice during his last Weather Report on December 16th 2022, and it was of course a nice choice to close this series and describe what was our mood after Angelo Badalamenti & Julee Cruise's passings last year.

This is also Lynchland's Return of the Sunday Songs after we have been attacked by a parasite page back in June, that broke our motivation and desires for a while. We'll see if we'll be able to maintain that tradition that we followed every Sunday since 2010 (!!), but we had clearly missed it. Was this weekly tradition something that you enjoyed on your side ?
