Man Allegedly Beaten To Death Weeks To His Wedding In Lagos
A man identified simply as Basit, who had reportedly returned to Nigeria from abroad for his wedding, was allegedly beaten to death following a hit-and-run incident in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.
The incident reportedly occurred in the Patey area of the community on Wednesday, September 2.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was driving his car when he allegedly hit a male resident who was attempting to cross the road.
Rather than stopping to assist the victim, Basit allegedly drove away from the scene.
The incident reportedly angered residents in the area, who gave him a hot chase.
When they eventually caught up with him, the aggrieved residents allegedly attacked and beat him, inflicting serious injuries to his head.
Basit was reportedly left unconscious after the attack and later died from the injuries sustained.
The deceased was said to have been preparing for his wedding, which was scheduled to take place later this month, when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The Lagos State Police Command is yet to officially react to the incident.

Donald Duke: Nigerians Were Better Off Economically In 1999
The Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, presidential candidate, Donald Duke, has said Nigerians were economically better off in 1999 than they are today, despite more than two decades of uninterrupted constitutional democracy.
Duke, a former governor of Cross River State, made the remarks during an interview on the Policy Without Politics podcast.
Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999 after years of military government, with former President Olusegun Obasanjo succeeding the then military Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar.
However, Duke argued that the country has failed to achieve meaningful economic progress despite its growing population and significant increases in budgetary figures over the years.
According to him, Nigeria is not experiencing true democracy, describing the current system as a “facade” and arguing that Nigerians have become poorer with each political cycle.
He said, “We’re really not in a democracy. It’s a facade. And with each cycle, we get poorer.”
Duke further stated, “I can say to you very clearly that in 1999, the people were better off than they are today, in 2026. They were much better off. The country was more affordable.”
The PRP presidential candidate also compared Nigeria’s current fiscal position with that of the administration of the late former President Shehu Shagari in the early 1980s.

Osun Election: APC, PDP Challenge Adeleke’s Victory
The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has formally commenced proceedings on petitions challenging the outcome of the August 15 governorship election in the state.
The development followed the display of two petitions filed by the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The petitions, which challenge the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke, were pasted on the notice board of the tribunal secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, September 7.
The development came after the Secretary of the Tribunal, Pefe Belemore, confirmed that petitions challenging the outcome of the election had been filed.
Belemore had earlier announced that the necessary notices would be displayed on the tribunal’s notice board before noon on Monday.
At the opening of the tribunal earlier in the day, the secretary and other officials of the tribunal secretariat were present in court as preparations were made for the commencement of proceedings.
The APC and PDP are challenging the election result that returned Governor Ademola Adeleke for another term in office.
The APC’s petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by the party’s candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, against Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Accord Party, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The PDP’s petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Governor Adeleke, INEC, and the Accord Party.
The two petitions now formally bring the disputed outcome of the August 15 Osun State governorship election before the election petition tribunal for hearing.
