The FPL Wire - Fantasy Premier League
Hello everyone
Unfortunately, we had to cancel the Gameweek 15 Pod as I've fallen ill overnight. LR and Pras will be doing their Team Selection videos.
See you back on Tuesday for the Gameweek 16 Pod

FPL Musing.
While the FPL game is moving towards defcons and set pieces, that is but a component of the game and not the whole game. Yes we can't ignore it but as a whole, the big difference makers at the start of the season have been Haaland, Semenyo and assessing the cleansheet potential and ability of teams like Arsenal and Crystal Palace (of course it is so much more layered than this).
Content and conversation has diverted more than it should to Defcon and set pieces (I am guilty too, I mean I covered set piece share, late goals and such before Gameweek 8 and was happy to see the Athletic doing a video covering exactly that. I'll link what I wrote below) and I just hope we don't forget to have conversations about open-play threat and ability in addition to the DEFCON and set pieces. Correction and adjustment is good, I just hope that we don't over-correct. There's an entitled part of me that still feels that relying just on the DEFCON and set pieces is for those who don't trust their ability to back what they see (I did say entitled) but it definitely raises the floor of the competition who rely (largely) on this.
We shouldn't ignore it. But we shouldn't over-correct our lens. Especially when it comes to the attackers which is where I'm convinced what we see will come through. Heck even the attacking defenders raised their hands this week. Find and get your boxes ticked out of Minutes, Open Play Threat, Open play (and finishing) ability, Pen Share, Set Piece share (and ability), DEFCON, team strength, fixtures and match ups. But make sure your weighing your boxes correctly and not over-correcting. That can lead us to lazily pick just the outlet and Defcon guys and forget the football (yes I know this is football too but you know what I mean).
I guess that is all. I like thinkin, writing and talking about this game that is FPL and always appreciate you giving my musings a space. If it's rubbish, just scroll away. The image I attached is food for thought in itself.
Also this is the thread I wrote earlier on FPL defenders, Set pieces, Defcons and Late goals:

No time for a GW19 Team selection Video from me, so posting moves below with reasoning
Flekken & Strand Larsen out for Henderson and Jackson with 2 FT
Keepers
Pickford, Sels, Alisson and Henderson were the candidates
I just didn't like the fixtures for the first 2 and not a fan of premium keepers. Not against the double up with Munoz later on, view him as a Palace attacker. 4.4m spend allows more spend in attack
Forwards
Watkins was very tempting but its a short term move with minutes uncertain after the next two home games, an opinion which @FPLCruyff74 and @Hoptastats share.
Jackson could get benched vs Ipswich but he's the long term 2nd best forward so just got him in now
