Yesterday I received @NIGBEE-lock-bothering 's lever padlock picks. I started to crack at my Squire 660. I had to figure out pick positioning, tensioning and how high I needed to lift each lever, so I opened the lock first to observe the levers while picking. I couldn't get the lock open on the same day though, because my tensioning of the lock was off.
This morning I watched @Lock-Picking-Paul 's video to get some more ideas and the way he held the padlock upside down, helped me open my first lever padlock!
My brother and his colleagues had a lockpicking accident. One of them turned the core too much after picking this lock and instantly joined the rattle club. It is a guttable Abus/Brady 71/40 in a beautiful emerald green plastic body. Unfortunately the key was pulled out of the core and now some of the driver pins are poking out. I'm going to try and shim the core. See if I can salvage it
This is just a quick reaction post to @RunesmithLocksport 's comemment on wanting to see my scales for the LLT Ridgeback profiles.
I started to work on some scales for the Law Lock Tools Ridgeback set (A few months ago LLT decided to stop manufacturing these lockpicks, because of the number of steps they required to be made. Instead LLT will focus on simpler designs).
Here I'm trying to make use of 3.5mm tall book binder bolts to hold my single pin picks profiles together with a PETG scale. They turned out pretty ugly, but they are still in the design phase. Even worse are these PLA scales that I made for the rake profiles. Well it's a WIP so no complaints.
At least they don't make the feedback worse on these excellent 0.6mm wide picks from LLT 😂
I finally managed to open two of my Ruko 600 locks with 6 barrel spools in each lock. These are namely #700 and #717 from @Yagias on Discord. The key solution was to create a custom tensioner that allows me to tension in both directions easily and file it down in such a way, which allows the tip to enter the top of the keyway, but at the same time not touch the first keypin. A big thank you to @BumpyBonesLocksport for the idea! Check out his videos on making custom tensioners!
Using this new tensioner, I managed to open the lock 8 times in a row in about 30 minutes. I wish I was recording, because as it turns out my winninstreak ended fairly early.
Unfortunately yesterday I completely failed at opening the lock 🔒 on W30Y-Ray 's stream. Which is a shame, because I was pretty confident I could open the lock on camera.
I started to work my way through all my purple belt locks that have gin spools in them. I decided to test the Jimmy Longs 15thou round hooks, which I find the best at squeezing through the Y1 keyway that these Ruko 2 padlocks use in their snowman cores.
The reaper set truly is a lock slayer. I recently opened locks with it, which were impossible for me to tackle a few weeks ago. The shallow hook profiles are amazing for picking these squiggly keyways. Such as the one in the Burgwächter D600
The McTickler profile from the McNally Reaper set: It sure is an acquired taste, but boy... it is anything but ineffective.
Dive into the keyway with an angle trying to keep contact between the bump in the back of the profile and the bottom of the pins and then with mid to high tension, switching from the back bump to the tip of the pick, zip out of the lock to achieve a fast open.
Working towards getting a purple belt in the #LockPickersUnited ranking system. I just opened my third purple belt lock.
So far we have: 1. the Ruko 500 with gin spools 2. the Lockman Megacross with mushroom spools and my latest conquering: 3. Lockwood Twin Padlock with a side bar
Looking for a beginner dimple lock to ease into picking dimple locks? These are in my opinion the easiest dimple locks in my collection:
Master Lock 1145 (Orange Belt) Master Lock 1155 (Orange Belt) Master Lock 1165 (Orange Belt) Master Lock 2940 (White Belt / Unranked) Master Lock 2950 (White Belt / Unranked, currently under review on the Lockpickers United Belt Explorer)
Let me know what you think are the easiest dimple locks - to start out with - in the comments below!
