Share yours with me! My Spotify wrap this year was different to what I expected. I thought I listened to much more Spiritbox. But what a song is Manson’s cover of “In The Air Tonight”. What was your top song?
Hey guys, Due to my grandmother’s passing this morning, we won’t be having any streams today. I was really excited to bring my max energy for you all this Thanksgiving. I guess the lesson for me is that even in moments of grief, it’s important not to take the good people in our lives for granted, and to be thankful for their presence. Wishing you all a blessed Thanksgiving! I’ll see you at our weekend stream! Mr. Sorenzo
6 years ago tonight, I had my last drink. Zero drops since. Everyone wants the heroic narrative: “Quit booze and unlock god-mode.” But reality is more nuanced. Here’s the unvarnished truth from someone who actually lived it:
1. Mornings became weapons: Pre-2019: Wake up → assess damage → negotiate with myself about coffee volume. Now: Eyes open → immediately in motion. No latency. That delta compounds into extra high-quality hours.
2. Discipline is the real unlock I still walk past a bar with a Hibiki on the shelf and feel the pull. Hard. Anyone who says cravings disappear after 30/90/365 days is either lying or never truly enjoyed drinking. The muscle you build saying “no” when you want the yes and nobody’s watching? That muscle transfers everywhere...at least that’s my hope.
3. Weight / body composition Brutal honesty: I’m heavier now than when I drank. The last few years have been 70–80 hour work weeks. When time became scarce, training and meal prep got cut first. Drinking-era me had much lighter abs and bigger arms.
4. Mental hygiene Alcohol was my off-switch. Net result of quitting: one less escape hatch. If you still doom-scroll or watch Netflix, you just swapped anesthetics.
5. Social & cultural cost Music loses ~30% of its magic when you’re stone-cold sober. I don’t have “drinking friends” anymore not because they ghosted me, but because my calendar is a fortress. I don’t go out or hang out. I’m building things.
Bottom line: Quitting alcohol didn’t make me superhuman. It just removed a tax on my operating system. I don’t have a tool to measure how things would have been different had I continued with the drinking, and how the compound interest of the change shows up in decision quality, recovery speed, and the ability to lean into hard things longer than feels reasonable. If you’re on the fence, run the experiment. But go in knowing that it’s not a cheat code. It’s one less handicap (a fun handicap) in a game that’s already brutally hard. Will I keep the quits? I don’t know. I may start drinking tonight, or never drink again. But either way, won’t spend more time thinking about it.
You know that Epiphone Custom Shop Firebird 1 I might’ve spoken a little ill of on the stream earlier? I bought it today despite having the first bad ride 4 days ago. My integrity was already priced into the guitar so it was a great deal😂 My only regret is giving a friend the opportunity to say “I told you so”. But we all have to make sacrifices.
So two points:
1. Yes, Señor Mr. Sorenzo, flipped. The curiosity of how well I can bend this to my will was killing me for 4 days. A great rider tames the difficult horse. If this is not a move MUY ATHLETICAMENTE, I don’t know what is. 2. No clue about this "Hammett" guy, but if he grips his axe with even 1/10th my athleticism, he might scrape together a garage band hit.
🔥Ooooh baby baby, let’s make this work. More talk on this on the stream tomorrow!
