Biblical hope has a different meaning than our current cultural meaning for hope. Biblical hope is more than a wish, it is the joyful anticipation of good which comes from our confidence in who God is and what He has promised us. Because of His promises, we are invited to live with an extreme and contagious hope that remains strong in the midst of difficulty. Let's remind ourselves of His promises to us today: We are chosen and called to a glorious future in Christ, and there is not one thing that could ever separate us from His love and what He accomplished for us on the Cross. What other promises are meditating on today that are filling you with fresh hope?

Israel was acquainted with the acts of God, Moses was acquainted with His ways (see Psalm 103:7). The acts of God that Moses saw led him to a deeper understanding and knowledge of God’s nature. Israel, however, saw the same miracles but didn’t let those miracles shape how they viewed and trusted God when facing future problems. The testimonies we see in Scripture and in our lives are to reveal to us who God is, establishing our trust in Him and confidence in His goodness. Our circumstances don’t change who God is. He is perfectly faithful and we can trust Him.

We took time yesterday during our Sunday services to communicate our grief and repent for the areas in which we have failed and contributed to pain and mistrust by not speaking out about Shawn Bolz’ ministry earlier. I have many things that I take ownership of and apologize for in this situation to our church, our students, and to our global family. I acknowledge my failure, and I want to convey that I, and our house, will do better. I pray that the Lord will bring healing to our hearts, our Church, and the greater Body of Christ.

Moses recognized that the Presence of God is what set the Israelites apart from every other people on earth, and asked God not to send them into the Promised Land without His Presence with them. We know that God is the Healer. But Jesus instructed His disciples to heal the sick, not to pray for the sick. Oftentimes we pray for a miracle and when we don't see breakthrough, we accept it as the sovereignty of God. If we don't see the miracle we are contending for, guilt and shame will not help us. But getting alone with God and seeking Him for His answers will. We are on a lifelong journey of learning how to host the Presence of God and walk in step with Him. We refuse to reduce our faith to what we have experienced and we raise our faith to God's truth and what He has said.
