Here’s an update on the socket “repair” I’m attempting; i have hopes, but I think reality is showing its ugly mug.
So far, I have continuous issues trying to clean the leftover solder from the previous connector. If I heat up the board, other components get de-soldered, which is starting to become a pain in the butt.
There is still a TON of solder to clean up, as you can see some of the solder balls are connected, but it just refuses to play nice. I’m not sure if my iron isn’t great or what, but I will continue working on it!
Time for some good news:
I found out some sources which mention the capacitors in the middle of the socket may be ceramic, meaning no polarity! It would be just a matter of soldering them back on in place!
Wish me luck folks, this isn’t “hard” per-se; it’s just tedious as all hell!

The wife was adamant that no work will be done today, on December 25, 2023; however, I decided to sneak away for a quick 5-6 minutes and wish you, the community a joyous holiday season.
Additionally, I hope you all have a healthy and love filled 2024. I don't wish prosperity, because that usually comes on its own if you are healthy and surrounded by your loved ones.
