Sridevi Nrithyalaya is a Bharatanatyam institution based in Chennai that firmly believes in its motto - NATYAM MOKSHA SADHANAM. With reverence to the art and gratitude to all the Rasikas, the institute has successfully been running for 36 years. Alongside traditional performance and teaching methods, SDN uses YouTube and social media as a medium to edify and entertain the masses with this divine artform.
Each student is trained towards perfection, giving individual attention in the class, nurturing a close relationship with the teacher. Under the able guidance of Dr. Sheela Unnikrishnan, the teachers of the Nrithyalaya take absolute care to ensure that the training period in this institute is an experience of learning dance with joy.
In Sridevi Nrithyalaya, the students are taught to pursue the art as a 'Tapas', parallelly inculcating in them qualities such as inner strength, willpower, empathy etc.

SDN in Australia 2026
Sridevi Nrithyalaya was invited by SHIVAM school of dance in Sydney and JEGHEM Performing Arts Company to perform in the Melbourne. The troupe performed at Bryan Brown Theatre, Sydney on August 8, 2026 and at the Tony Sheumack Centre for Performing Arts, Melbourne on the 15th of August 2026.
SDN's Aindhu was devotedly presented by Bhairavi Venkatesan, Mridula Sivakumar, Mrinalini Sivakumar, Sanjena Ramesh and Nishkala Ranjeev with great synchronisation and zeal that enthralled the audience in Sydney and Melbourne as well. The connection of theme of Aindhu (number five) was well explained before every dance number that was presented in the program.
Students of Shivam School of Dance shared the stage with SDN in Sydney.
The festival "YATRA" in Melbourne was organised by Jegham Performing Arts Company, founded by the three siblings of Elankumaran family, Satheepan, Beven and Rukshikaa with a vision to honour Indian fine arts. Yatra, the initiative of Elankumarans started with an inaugural performance by the legendary Abhinaya exponent, Smt. Priyadarsini Govind. Ms. Belinda Wilson, the Victorian Labor Member of Parliament was present in the show to support the young organisers of the festival. The performance of Sridevi Nrithyalaya in the presence of Ms. Belinda Wilson was well received by the audience with a full house. Performances & conversations with Melbourne's pioneering dance schools and teachers, concluded the festival that was well curated by Rukshikaa Elankumaran, who is also a disciple of Smt. Priyadarsini Govind.
Dr Sheela Unnikrishnan was requested to conduct workshops in both the cities. The enthusiastic learners and SDNs shared great sessions of mutual learning and artistic bonding. On the whole, the overwhelming rasikas in Sydney and Melbourne gave a everlasting wonderful experience to Dr Sheela and her team in a span of two weeks' time in Australia.
Our special thanks to Mrs. Manimehalai and Mr. Thevan family at Dandenong, Melbourne for accommodating us all in their home and feeding us with a variety of yummy home-cooked food.
I, Shobha Korambil, the manager and coordinator of the Team SDN was fortunate to enjoy the hospitality and warmth of both Ms. Saipriya Rahulan (Shivam School of Dance, Sydney) and Ms. Meena Elankumaran and Mr. Elankumaran (Natanalaya, Melbourne).
