On October 7, 2026, SEBI issued a mandatory circular introducing a standardized, color-coded Credit Risk-o-Meter for all listed debt securities, CPs, SDIs, and MLDs.
Here are the 4 key takeaways every bond investor and treasury manager needs to know:
🟢 6 Color-Coded Risk Levels: Ranging from Irish Green (#08A04B - AAA) down to Red (#F70D1A - Default/High Risk).
⚖️ The Lowest Rating Rule: If a bond carries ratings from multiple agencies, the Risk-o-Meter MUST reflect the lowest rating. No more cherry-picking!
⚡ 24-Hour Automated Platform Updates: Online Bond Platforms (OBPPs) must auto-sync updates within 24 hours of NSDL/CDSL notification—with ZERO manual overrides allowed.
🚨 Bold Red Unsecured Tag & AT1 Warnings: Unsecured bonds must bear a prominent bold red "Unsecured" label, while AT1 perpetual bonds carry mandatory disclaimers warning of total capital loss risks.
