Bonnie Raitt is a singer, songwriter and guitarist whose unique style blends blues, R&B, rock, and pop. After 20 years as a cult favorite, she broke through to the top in the early 90s with her GRAMMY-award winning albums, 'Nick of Time' and 'Luck of the Draw,' which featured hits, "Something To Talk About" and "I Can't Make You Love Me" among others. The thirteen-time Grammy winner was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 and Rolling Stone named the slide guitar ace one of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” and one of the "100 Greatest Singers of All Time.” With Just Like That…, her first new album in more than six years, Raitt continues to draw on the range of influences that have shaped her legendary career, while creating something that speaks to the circumstances and challenges of these unprecedented times. Bonnie continues to use her influence to affect the way music is perceived and appreciated in the world.

This September marked the 20th anniversary of the release of Bonnie's 18th studio album, Souls Alike. The lead single, "I Will Not Be Broken," (written by Gordon Kennedy, Wayne Kirkpatrick, and Tommy Sims,) with it's message of resilience and resolve resonates deeply today. Upon the album's release in 2005 Bonnie said, "After this many albums and hundreds of songs, you want to find new things to say, new ways to say them. For me, one of the most exciting aspects of what I do is hearing some hidden part of myself reflected back in the songs of someone else. It's why that connection to artists we love is so deep. And then the alchemy of the band and I finding a way to make these songs our own—that's what keeps me coming back. Like prisms reflecting back on each other, we're souls alike."

“I mean, listen, none of us expected when we were 20 that we’d be rocking this hard when we were in our 70s. And then I look at Mick (Jagger) and Keith (Richards) and Paul McCartney … and Tony Bennett and B.B. (King) before them. There’s no sign of slowing down, artistically and energetically. We all got the message that if we were lucky enough to be taking better care of ourselves … we could keep doing this.” Bonnie spoke with Gary Graff at The Oakland Press in advance of her show tomorrow night Sept 13th at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. “Bonnie slightly preceded me in coming on the scene, but we had very parallel paths,” says Taylor. “She was connected with the music scene in Cambridge and Boston.” As Bonnie and the band head to Lenox, MA on Sunday for their performance at Tanglewood Music Festival, we wanted to share the thoughtful sidebar interview that her dear friend ‪@jamestaylor‬ gave to Berkshire Magazine to accompany the feature article about Bonnie that ran in the Summer 2025 issue.
