Hello, this Pinetop Jackson, and I'd like to welcome you to my 2nd channel! My main channel felt like it was getting a bit crowded, too much subject matter between the Guitarchaeology, the amateur woodworking w/ reclaimed materials, and doing random stuff with the kids...but I did want to start documenting another hobby of mine, hiking & urban exploration!
This hobby started when I was a kid. I grew up in a small Indiana town, and any free time I had was spent outdoors, exploring woods, trails, railroad tracks, and of course venturing into any abandoned structures I came across!
For nearly a decade we lived in the Pacific Northwest near Seattle...there's plenty of beautiful locations for hiking, but the creepy abandoned properties are harder to come by.
Now my family lives in Detroit, and I am just AMAZED by all the huge abandoned factories & school buildings that are just wide open, begging to be explored!

The building is falling apart now, vacant for 5 decades. But in the late 1960s - early 70s, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Byrds, Cream, Janis Joplin, Steve Miller, Chuck Berry, John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, Jeff Beck, Blue Oyster Cult...just some of the bands that have stood up on this stage.

Detroit had a large Ukrainian population in the early 20th century, numbering over 100,000 in the 1920s. Sometime in the mid '30s this meeting hall was built. There was an auditorium with a stage, a bar, kitchen, club rooms...it was a private club and you had to speak Ukrainian at the door to get in!
The auditorium hosted guest speakers, presentations, concerts, parties...
In the '80s the Ukrainians would rent the hall out to anyone who needed a place to hold an event (as long as they could pay the deposit.)
The D.I.Y. punk and hardcore scene of the '80s threw some crazy shows here! We found a flyer advertising a show put on here by Detroit hardcore band Negative Approach. They brought in a couple out-of-town bands for support, SS Decontrol from Boston and General Issue from D.C. The year is not recorded on the flyer, but this show most likely occurred on January 15, 1982 or '83.
