💡The reason a lot of players get stuck writing is because they believe their ideas aren’t good enough to begin with. So they're overly critical of every riff, scrap half-finished songs, and wait for “the perfect idea” to show up.

But finishing more songs usually has way less to do with a 'good' idea to start with and way more to do with process. Writing more, giving yourself space before judging them, and actually fleshing simple ideas out fully before binning them can completely change how productive you are.

If you want one simple writing trick that helps you finish more songs (plus a few practical ways to apply it straight away), check out my latest video 👇

What's everyone's thoughts on this recent trend of 'guitar miming' videos? I feel like I'm seeing them more and more these days. Just curios how people feel about the topic.

💡 There’s no big secret here - it’s just something that gets overlooked time and time again. One of the biggest disconnects for people who want their music to sound as good as their favourite records is missing the link between songwriting, recording, and the final mix.

That link - the thing that sits right in between songwriting and recording - is arrangement. It’s a broad topic and can mean very different things depending on the context, but if your songs never quite turn out the way you imagined, this is usually why.

If you want to understand what’s really holding your tracks back, watch this video 👇

The latest song by joyrobber just dropped! It was a lot of fun helping out on the recording, production and mixing for this one. If you enjoyed their previous track 'Jeremy Kyle', which I've used in a few previous videos, I'm sure you'll like this one too!

💡A lot of players think making chord progressions more interesting means learning more chords - more theory, more shapes, more complexity. But some of the biggest changes you can make come from what happens in between the chords you’re already playing. By adding split-second passing movements, chromatic steps, and even intentionally dissonant shapes, you can turn simple progressions into something that feels tense and connected, instead of boring or awkward. From subtle movements in the bass layered under static guitars to quick tritone hits that grab the listener’s ear, these tiny changes can completely transform how your progressions feel. If you want to hear how these small in-between moments make a massive difference, this video breaks it all down 👇

“You have a Discord?!”

I do! It’s been quietly existing this whole time.
If you want a place to ask questions, share mixes, or just talk music, you’re more than welcome. I’m aiming to be more active in there this year, and I’m very open to ideas on how to make it more useful - so feel free to share your own or just become a casual lurker, whichever you prefer!

💡A lot of players think punk bass is just hammering root notes as fast as possible - but there’s way more going on under the hood. From walking bass lines and melodic lead parts, to using chords and inversions to add movement and connect chord progressions, knowing all the ways in which you can play punk bass lines can completely change the feel of a song.

If you want to understand what actually makes punk bass lines work - and how to apply those ideas to your own playing and writing - this video breaks down everything you actually need to know 👇
