Hey all, I wanted to give a special shoutout to the online ministry that our S5 Finale guest Hunter Hoover is a part of, Parable Ministries.
Parable has three podcasts right now including a Bible teaching one called Pickled Parables that I had the opportunity to be a part of (episode releases next month). Check out the ministry and their work here: parableministries.com/
Charlie Kirk was was shot yesterday at an event and died. I, like many of you, am incredibly heartbroken by the sheer brutality and tragedy dealt to fellow image bearers this afternoon. I am left with bewilderment, fear, and a sense of creeping dread that I cannot deal with any other way than lay at the feet of Jesus. Charlie's death was a result of an undeniable and disgustingly evil act. The actions of that person made Charlie's wife a widow and his children grow without their earthly father. There is no excuse for evil, and we should pray for the justice and repentance of the shooter while we lift up Charlie's family asking for wisdom, peace and comfort. The idolization or celebration of the evil done to Charlie or anyone else will not be tolerated. The way I have seen some acting in response to this is beyond disgusting and vile. We will not stand for it here.
I believe it is important that we remember that Charlie was killed because he was speaking out boldly in a manner that was a result of his heart having been transformed by Jesus Christ. In this, Charlie was a martyr and NOT just simply a political assassination. He knew full and well that his position and opinions very well could lead him to harm. He knew this not only because there are some that hate him and what he said so greatly that they wanted to kill him, but ultimately because his savior told him to expect to be hated.
John 15:18-20, Jesus tells us to expect to be hated by the world because the world first hated Him. We are no greater than He is, that we should not be hated as He was. He was hated to death...
But we must also remember wisdom such as 1 Peter 4:12-17 that tells us to not be surprised by being hated, but to rejoice in the face of suffering for our faith because it is an indication that the light of Christ is evident in us. The world hates Him and hates to see Him in us. But we must endure that hate and love others just as He has loved us. (1 John 4:19)
Do not allow this event to cripple you with fear (I say this as much to myself as I do anyone else), remember Paul's words in 1 Cor 15:20-26 & 1 Cor 15:30-32. We do not walk and live in fear of death because we have certainty in Christ's resurrection and His promise to raise us again with Him and use even the vilest evil such as this for the good of His kingdom and for His glory. Wow. What an incredible God we know and serve! (Romans 12:2)
I urge you to turn your eyes upon Jesus with me now and cry out to Him as Lord, Savior, Provider, Protector and Almighty Father. Take your burdens and fears to Him, laying them at His feet. He is the only One that is enough to bring beauty out of even this unspeakable evil.
"Blessed are you when others hate you and persecute you and speak evil against you, because of me.”
