I realize it's been a hot minute since I last posted anything content-wise, so I felt I should say something to make sure people know what's up. It's Summer here in the states, which means my kids are out of school. This is the time of year that I tend to take a bit of a break, enjoy the kids being home, take vacations, and prepare for DragonCon. I have a lot of content planned for the coming weeks! It's just a matter of squeezing in that time and prioritizing it over other life shenanigans.
Regarding DragonCon: Typically I do one "intricate" cosplay a year. I've traditionally worked on cosplays that are more sewing than fabrication. This year I'm making a Dune Fremen, which means lots of foam work, 3D printing, painting/airbrushing, etc. Is this something people are interested in seeing? I am only just now starting to make parts of the cosplay, so I could document it for a casual video on the whole process as opposed to a single tutorial.
I'm packing up and rolling out for the first runDisney event of the 24-25 season! Just a polite heads up that I won't be posting any big videos until I return from this trip next week. My daughter and I will be running the 10k together, then I'll be on my own for the half marathon the following morning. We're running this weekend's race events on behalf of Kellsie's Hope Foundation! Our bibs were funded in part by YouTube memberships/ads and Twitch subscribers, so thank you all so much for continuing to support my wee corner of the Internet!
In consolation, enjoy this in-progress picture of a mini backpack I'm making for the trip! I'm not satisfied with how the front pocket turned out, but that's why we test and refine our skills, right? Next time I know to make the pocket a little deeper in the gusset, so it isn't as fiddly to attach to the front panel! If you're curious, this is just a personal pattern I've worked on here or there for the past couple of years. No retail bags were harmed during the production process. I have been eyeballing and measuring, only. This is honestly the first time I've truly sewn since late-August. I gave myself a little bit of a break given the DragonCon crunch wore me down.

The first 2 weeks are dedicated to runDisney shenanigans. I'm going to be running the Dopey Challenge again, then flying out to California to do the Dumbo Challenge in Disneyland a short 4 days later.
As for the current delays, trigger Warning: Cancer (not me): . . . . . . . My father was diagnosed with throat cancer and has been undergoing chemo and radiation. It's a very aggressive treatment plan, so I've been spending a lot of time helping out. As you can imagine, my mental health is shot. I'm pretty numb right now, so it's been hard to find the energy (or time) for recording videos.
Hey hey Sewhalla! I'm going to do another live stream on Thursday evening (8/10/2023) at 8pm ET! I'm not used to planning these things ahead of time since I've mostly held a consistent schedule on Twitch for the past 7-8 years. I already put the new Live up, so you can hit the notifications icon to be reminded of when I go live!
Thursday's stream will be all about machine embroidery. I've got some hats to do as well as sweatshirt designs to test and proof for the upcoming witchy season!
LORD HAMMERCEH, there's a LOT of Twitter replacements coming out. Just to keep everyone up to date on socials, I have created an account on Threads, Bluesky, AND Hive. I'm "fiercekittenz" on all of those. Threads is the latest, added just last night. It's tied to your Instagram account, so if you use Instagram, you can easily follow me there. It's easier to have a conversation on that one at least. Also it's called "Threads" - how can we, as sewists, NOT like it???
I'm recovering well from my total hip replacement. It's been 3 weeks today and I'm now able to climb steps reliably. I do get tuckered out silly fast though, so I'm taking it easy. Once I'm cleared for activity at the 6 week mark, I am going to start doing a live stream here on Youtube once a week. I've been threatening it for some time now, but I mean it. I need to do it!
To prep y'all for how I am in a live capacity:
- I'm unfiltered. I will try to keep cuss to a minimum, but I do have a sailor's mouth when I'm not in an edited capacity. - I don't always talk about just sewing stuff. Sometimes you may pop in and we're talking about a game or TV show. It's really just a time to hangout and chat with people while I get some work done. - I absolutely LOVE getting sewing questions while I'm live. If the topic isn't about sewing, please don't hesitate to pop your question in chat! I will always divert attention to help. - The potato cat is the Sewhalla mascot. Sewhalla is the name of the community - named for that one time I dressed like a Viking, riding a blow-up unicorn, wielding a yard stick as my sword-of-choice. It's a thing. It stuck. I'm sorry.
Tonight (March 9, 2023) on Twitch I'll be sewing and raising money for Starlight Children's Foundation! I would love to see y'all there! I may or may not have the Jenga tower setup in the center of the room on the quilter's cart so that donations may or may not force me to remove a block. (I also may or may not run into the cart and knock it all over... we'll see...)

I hope you've been enjoying it as much as I have been in making the videos! It's so much more comfortable in this larger room now that I don't feel like the walls are caving in on me ;)

I'll be doing a special charity stream benefitting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital on Sunday, December 4th from 1pm-5pm ET.
Julia Child Baking has been a really big, funny charity stream theme for my community on Twitch for the past several years and this year will be even more chaotic with my mother, sister, niece, and daughters joining us! The hope is to reach my $2,500 goal for the runDisney Princess 2023 event that I am running as a St. Jude Hero. All donations go directly to the hospital.
But that's not all! If we raise $1,000, I will MATCH an additional $1,000 AND the chat gets to vote on which one of us has to take a sheet cake to the face!!!

I need to have everything packed and tucked away so I can focus on the rest of the family and any remaining work to be done on our current home in Texas. I may try posting some Shorts in the meantime, but I do not like how they alert subscribers and bait them into clicking into something that isn't what they've come to expect of the channel's content.
The "plan" is to be setup and ready to go by mid-October. At that time, I will start to introduce live streams on Saturdays. I typically stream on Twitch, but I have some concern with the platform and the way they have been treating their content creators, not just recently, but over the past couple of years. Howdy! A lot of people have reached out to ask what's up with the empty background on my latest video. WELL... I'm moving! We're in the middle of a cross country move from TX to NC, which finalizes in early-October. Most of my sewing equipment is packed. I even packed every scrap of fabric! My PC is still up and running for work and content creation shenanigans, hence a short focus on Hatch Embroidery tutorials and discussions.
One thing I'd like to ask the community is how do you feel about live content on YouTube? If I planned a weekly stream here after my move, would that be something that would interest you? Twitch's exclusivity clause over my partnership is no longer a thing, so I am allowed to stream on multiple platforms now if I wish!
